SOLVED. Fiction about a man who is haunted by Beauty. [s]

Not much to go on, but...

The main character is a middle-aged man living somewhere in the U.K. If I remember correctly, he leads a pretty lonely life, that is until he starts being haunted by the image of another man who he refers to as "Beauty."

I started reading this novel back in 2017, but didn't finish it. Cover of the book might be light purple.

When you say "haunted by the image," do you mean Beauty was a hallucination? A ghost?

I managed to find out what it was after all. It's "Skin Lane" by Neil Bartlett.

Apparently I got a few details wrong. Beauty isn't actually a ghost or a hallucination, he is a (real) young man who starts working at the same place as the main character, Mr. F, who's been having recurrent, erotic nightmares about a male figure whose face he cannot see.

I'm excited to start reading it again and see what happens.
