Male author. Read around 2005, but don't know how old the book is. Science research station in Artic ice cap finds a creature frozen in ice. Creature comes alive and terrorizes people. Maybe the creature's name started with the letter G.

Sounds similar to Terminal Freeze by Lincoln Child but it appears that book was first published in 2008.
You should check out this list. Apparently there are many books similar to this, and maybe a title will ring a bell. Some promising titles:
Deep Current
Ice Limit
Cold Skin
Ice Station
Carnivore
Good list, Diana!

I agree with those recommending Terminal Freeze. If that's not it, it might be Hunter by James Byron Huggins. If the main character is a super-tracker brought in to deal with the monster, try Hunter. Otherwise my money's on Terminal Freeze. It doesn't sound like "Who Goes There?" to me, but that one is well worth tracking down and reading. The novelization of the John Carpenter movie by Alan Dean Foster was pretty good, too.
