thanks
That sounds like fun. Regarding the "translated from French/Spanish", would one have to read the translated version, or could the original version count?

You can read the original language if it is translated into another language.

Thanks! Yes, the book having a translation would be a condition 😁 Now to find out if Luis Sepulveda's books have been translated 😀 ❤️
Other than those specifically required to be set in a particular country, could the other books be located in any country? One or more from the same country allowed for these squares? Thanks.
I'm a bit of a dimwit when it comes to adding images to GR apparently! ;) How do I get that bingo card to my thread?
Dee wrote: "i saved it to a photo hosting site and copied the HTML - i can share it with folks"Ok thanks!
I'll be joining!! Just a question to clarify: for the translated from French/Spanish/Portuguese just wanted to confirm if in order for it to count does the book we read in original need to be translated to English or can it be at least translated to French for example?
Viji wrote: "Other than those specifically required to be set in a particular country, could the other books be located in any country? One or more from the same country allowed for these squares? Thanks."Yes to both questions. The only requirement is the requirement specified in the square.

It can be translated into another language other than English.

Thanks, Dee! It took a couple of tries, but I got it! :)
Just found this group through a friend's posting (hi, Valerie!) and this sounds like a fantastic challenge! I'm def in this for the blackout :-)Just a quick question: are poetry and short stories allowed (assuming they are 100+ pages)?
Anika wrote: "Just found this group through a friend's posting (hi, Valerie!) and this sounds like a fantastic challenge! I'm def in this for the blackout :-)"Hey Anika! I'm sure you'll have no problem completing the whole card!
Rosemarie wrote: "Diane, there is a spammer here, see previous message"I think they deleted the message already, but thanks for the heads up.

Absolutely!
quick question, for award winning - does the specific book have to be award winning or does an award winning author count? Also does it have to have won the award or does a finalist count?
Is there any guidance about whether the books be set in a country other than one's own or authors be from other countries? I realized that 2 of the books I have read are by authors from my own country, but one is a science fiction book set on another planet and the other is about 80% set in another country. Substituting other books is no problem for me if the intention behind the challenge is to read only books/authors from other countries.
Summertime (aka Mikayla) wrote: "I want to do this challenge but i can't see the image"I created a tumblr post for my challenge if you want to check the image there https://fiwipa.tumblr.com/post/190272...

The only requirement is that the book fits the square. For example, "Woman author" does not necessarily have to come from another country unless you have set that requirement for yourself.
Some of the suggestions from the 2021 at ATW 80 post I liked were:book by or about a senior citizen (65+)
element theme (fire, water, air, earth)
the silk road
treasure hunt
humor or lighthearted book
Ruth's chocolate challenge really caught my eye and I thought it would be fun to read a book featuring chocolate or some other treat.
Also, reading a book featuring coffee or tea.
Diane, pronounced "djən" wrote: "Which topics do you want to include for 2021?"Hi, I haven't participated in the bingo of this group earlier but I'm planning to do so 2021.
Since I'm Swedish I'd like to suggest the topic Swedish authors and/or Scandinavian authors (from Norway, Denmark or Sweden) or from the Norse countries (= Scandinavia + Iceland and Finland).
Another topic I'd love is African Women Authors.
And the third topic I'd love to suggest is Authors from Vietnam. I came to think of a fourth topic: Horror! and a fifth: a novel which is to a mayor part set in the nature or a book where nature is described a lot.
Thank you ❤
Diane, pronounced "djən" wrote: "Which topics do you want to include for 2021?"Translated from Arab, Russian and German could be a good follow-up to the translation languages this year.
Historical fiction category also interesting, but maybe with requirement to be set before 1900.
Apocalyptic/sci-fi.
A book centered around a specific food, be it chocolate as proposed above or any other - or more broadly something on the micro-history genre.
Keep 'classic' on for 2021 + other genre focuses (historical fiction/fantasy, etc.)!More translations from different countries
A retelling of a myth/fairytale/other famous story
A book set on a journey
A book you should have read at school but didn't
A book based on a true story
A non-fiction book
A collection of short stories
A book that someone has recommended to you
I'm sorry but I can't seem to find the Bingo Board for 2022. Will someone guide me to it, please? Thankyou =)
I failed all the challenges for 2021, so wont ask for new numbers on the random challenge, but I may try for at least 1 bingo if not blackout.
I've loved the last few grids! Thank you, Diane.Just finished reading The Island of Missing Trees with my book group, and was hoping to find an offering for next year's programme (books in translation) when researching the next one. Ah well, there's at least one thread on translations where I may find something.

Rules: Choose to do one row, two rows, three rows, four rows, or the entire grid on the image shown below. It's up to you. Rows can go across, down, or diagonally. You will need to start your own thread in this folder to chart your progress. Books can be any length or language, the only rule is that your book fits the theme for that particular square. You can use only one square per book. The "Wild Card" square is open to whatever theme you would like to create.
