SOLVED. Brother and Sister are Ghosts [s]

I cannot remember the name of a book (or the author), about a brother and sister who are helping two other siblings escape from an evil Aunt. In the end one set of siblings is revealed to be ghost's. The book is either from the late 80's or early 90's and takes place in winter time.

It sounds a bit like Antonia Barber's The Ghosts (also known as The Amazing Mr Blunden). The children are due to die in a fire, the modern day characters are living on the estate as their mother is the caretaker for the big house.
