Keri Phillips | 164 comments Ok. So I've been out of touch for a while. I work in healthcare... If I hear the words "mandatory overtime" once more, I might yank all my hairs out by their roots. Anyways... lol.. What better time to start my journey back to sanity than January 1?

I did finish my first book of the year today. It was Paper and Fire by Rachel Caine

This is book 2 of the Great Library Series. I am behind and this one and actually have a review copy of the last one to review so I'm trying to catch up! It was pretty good. I'm anxious to see where the series goes. I've heard good things.

Good luck to everyone this year!

Keri Phillips | 164 comments Just finished a re-read of Year One by Nora Roberts. Someone let me borrow the 3rd and final book of this series and I'm binging it from the beginning to remind me of ALL the details. Nora Roberts is an autobuy for me.

Keri Phillips | 164 comments Finished Of Blood and Bone and The Rise of Magicks by Nora Roberts. I seriously don't know how this woman comes up with all of these stories. She's my favorite author by far.

Keri Phillips | 164 comments Finished A Mrs. Miracle Christmas by Debbie Macomber. I need Hallmark to make this one into a movie. Of course you know how it's going to end, but I really don't care. I love these sappy things. :)

Sabina (craftybynamitereads) | 1 comments I read Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto - first book of the year and I highly recommend if you fancy a high fantasy novel with a decent amount of adventure. I'd also recommend it to people who like Mulan.

Keri Phillips | 164 comments Just finished Cilka's Journey by Heather Morris. This was such a heartbreaking but important read. Cilka lived through Auschwitz only to be sentenced to a Siberian prison camp. While the author used some creative license to fill in gaps, the true story of Cilka needs to be known. Who knows how many women had similar stories that were never told from this horrific time during WW2. five stars

Finished Murder in the Bayou. This book is an investigative non fiction book about "the Jennings 8" murder victims.

The murders actually took place about an hour and a half from where I live. The murderer(s) have never been caught, and unfortunately, in that area of LA, the law enforcement is extremely corrupt. Always has been. It's interesting to hear the interviews vs. law enforcement statements and the investigation that took place.....

The only thing I didn't like is that it feel like it puts ALL of Southwest LA in a bad light, when really, it's only certain communities.

It's interesting if you like investigative reads and non fiction.
