Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments We talked about our top favs and least favs for 2019. This thread will allow you to talk about any other stats that are meaningful to you.

Here are some ideas of stats you might be interested in.
Did you kill of any series?
Did you start any series?
How many books or pages did you read?
How many audiobook or hours did you listen?
What was your longest book/shortest book?

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments On January 1, 2019, I had noted the following stats:

Books on my To Read shelf: 313
Books on my To Listen To shelf: 183.

As of today's date, I've read 101 books in 2019.
Books on my To Read shelf: 348
Books on my To Listen to shelf: 201.

I'm not making any progress on reducing my TBR shelves.

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments I finished another series last night and it will likely be the last of the year, so I can do my series stats...

> I killed 8 series, but I started 9. Yeah, me!
> I read 11 firsts in series that I won't continue.
> I read 3 orphans (books that came out for a series that I had previously finished).

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Great thread, Janice. I will be be back to post my stats after I look everything up.

I do not say this often but... Ignorance is bliss.

message 8: by Cherie (last edited Dec 21, 2019 04:04PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I read 164 books this year. 60 of them were audiobooks.
The longest book I read was 720 pages and the shortest was 27 pages, which I read today.

My TBR list is 3508 books long.

I killed 9 series and started 14 new ones. Right there with you, Janice!
The longest series that I finished this year was 21 books. I have been listening to them for 5 years. It seems like all my 1st-in-series books that I read jumped onto my added list, except two. I have not decided about them yet. I read 3 orphan books from previous series killed and I am anxiously waiting for two more to be published next year.

message 9: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments So far I've read over 15,700 pages. My goal was 15,000 so we are good there.
The shortest book I read was 17 pages long, and the longest one 1,074.
I started 2 new series, but I might go on with only one of them. The other one is a huge no. I made good progress with a couple of other series.
A good thing: I read a good number of books that were in my TBR for a long time.
A curiosity: I read and rated a book that nobody else read or rated in GR so far. That means the only rating is mine: L'inconnue du val perdu

Are these books you own or books you'd like to read?

My TBR's are books I own. I have a shelf for my wishlist which is at 1657. I'm in the process of whittling it down. I'm trying to be brutal about it.

Those are the books I would like to read. The list includes all of the books that I own. I really need to delete some more off of it. As I was gophering for books for the trivia challenge, I came across so many titles that I really want to get off, but there is no way to find them to delete them, from the Listopia Lists. I have to go through all of the pages in my TBR to click on the delete button. I am trying really hard not to add any more!

message 12: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments There are a couple of ways that you can delete them without wading through pages of your TBR shelf.

1. If you are looking at listopias, click on the book link, go to your review and edit. At the very bottom there is a link, "Remove from my books". Click and say bye-bye.

2. Search the book, either from the Goodreads search or by the bookshelf search. If you do a general Goodreads search, follow the process in number 1. If doing the search on your bookshelf, you just need to click the "x" at the right end of the listing.

I thought there was a way to do it from the book link, but I could not see it, but thanks! I will try it again, the next time I am gophering.

I just got my TBR down to 3480 by deleting some children's titles I added in 2012. I have been reviewing some of my shelves for titles to eliminate, but it gets boring. I need to clean out my to-read-Australia shelf. Unfortunately, not many show up on my library lists and I cannot afford to have Rusalka send them to me.

message 14: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments I definitely need to clean out my tbr. I currently have 1369 books on my Want to Read shelf. Plus, I have another 318 on a maybe-read ‎shelf that I created. I also have 12 "on-hold" that I either need to get back to or mark as dnf. I find it difficult to remove some of the books, but I will never read them all.

message 15: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments I created a shelf called "priority". There are 12 books on that shelf. It amuses me that I put books on the list a few years ago and have forgotten all about them. I obviously don't check that shelf very often, nor are the books all that much of a priority. I think I'll delete the shelf.

message 16: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I love stats! I didn't keep track of anything though, so I have to work with what GR gives me.

I read 51 books so far, with a total of 20.718 pages. I will probably read 2-3 more books. Of those 51 books:
- 14 were 5 stars
- 20 were 4 stars
- 10 were 3 stars
- 7 were 2 stars (1 abandoned)
- 1 abandoned without a rating

My shortes book was 72 pages, the longest was 906.

My average rating for 2019 is 3.8. Not bad!

message 17: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments I didn't report on the GR's Year in Books:

Books read (so far) - 102
Shortest book - 175 pgs (The Emperor's Soul)
Most popular - The Goldfinch
Least popular - The Golden Unicorn
Highest rates - Becoming
Average rating - 3.7

message 18: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments Ok, lets see... some of my stats:

I read 84 books and had a goal of 80.
Total of 27,586 pages
Shortest: 113 pages
Longest: 560 pages

My average rating: 3.7

I expect to add maybe 3 more books before the end of the year. I intentionally didn't mark any of my shorter books (picture books or really short stories) as being finished this year because I feel like it throws off my stats. So, the above should be a more accurate indicator.

Series completed in 2019:
DCI Erika Foster
Stillhouse Lake
Jane Hawk
The Collector
Sam Dryden
Wayward Children
I'm also hoping to finish the last book in the 4MK Thriller series before the end of the year, but it may end up being January.

Two book series:
Beartown
Joe Talbert
The Tattooist of Auschwitz
Cassidy Blake
Moloka'i

I think that's all of them. I started a few others, but haven't finished them yet. Some of those I expect to finish next year. I need to fix my series priority list as that has changed.

Sarah | 18549 comments I love doing this. Going to wait until closer to the end of the year though to share mine.

message 22: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments I like the way you separated out your star ratings, Jayme. I may look into mine too.

message 23: by Sarah (new)

longest book - Dune with 611 pages

message 24: by Fiona (new)

Fiona (fiiicoooo) | 270 comments I read:
122 books with a total of
32.215 pages.
Shortest book: 63 pages
Longest book: 793 pages
Average: 264 pages
Most popular: The Fault in Our Stars
Average rating: 4.4

message 25: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments I ended with 88 books and a total of 29,263 pages. I was able to finish the 4MK trilogy. My other stats didn't change.

message 26: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments Now that the gate has been closed on 2019, my final tally of books read was 108. I surpassed my Goodreads challenge by 8 books. I'm going to aim for 100 again in 2020.

message 27: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments So...I just realized that my stats are off. I never marked my toppler book as read and I just noticed it. I went to the review page and edited the date as being read by Dec 29th and it updated my yearly challenge, but my year in books did not change. That's super frustrating. I just checked my 2020 stats and it didn't add it there either. So, at least this year won't be messed up too.

Oh well. I think I really ended up with 89 books and 29,495 pages.

message 28: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Kristie, maybe it will update later? GR hadn't worked properly today for me.

message 29: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 1538 comments 2019 was a good reading year for me.

Read 55 Books

17,681 pages, avg of 321 pages/book. 3.7 average rating.

20% of the books I read were books I owned (pretty good I think) and 44% were audio books.

In 2020 I'd like to read less audio books, continue reading books I own (I acquired quite a few new ones this year), and reread some of my favorite books. I haven't reread anything in a very long time.

Kristie | 19133 comments Sandra wrote: "Kristie, maybe it will update later? GR hadn't worked properly today for me."

I think they've been over capacity maybe due to the holiday, but I've noticed some other glitches too. Hopefully, you're right and it will update later.

message 31: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments I seem to be leaning more and more towards audio lately, Vicki. I didn't check my percentage on that, but I'm sure it's pretty high.

It might be a caching issue too. Check it tomorrow and see how it appears.

message 33: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments It always gets overloaded on Jan 1st. I guess everyone is setting reading goals, etc.

message 34: by Fiona (new)

Fiona (fiiicoooo) | 270 comments I did a little math to get my percentage, this is what I came up with:

Audiobook: 61%
From TBR: 25%
Uni: 6%
Bought new: 6%
Gift: 2%

message 35: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments That's an interesting approach, Fiona.

message 36: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19133 comments My year in review updated today. Still some minor glitches on the home page, but at least this issue was cleared up. My average rating went up to 3.8.

message 37: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Jan 02, 2020 08:48AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments 2019 is done. On so many levels for me.

Read 29 books.
Wanted to read 45. Second year in a row I didn't meet this challenge.
Read 10 270 pages

Can't give you any more stats, as the summary page no longer exists on the 2/1/2020. Grrr.

Apologies, you can if you know the secret url. https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_i...

Shortest book - Ali and Nino
Longest - Changes
Average length - 354pp
Average rating - 3.4 stars

message 38: by Gavin (new)

Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 340 comments I read 91 books, 16 more than the 75 I planned originally.
Read 30, 878 pages. My most ever since I joined GR. Gotta thank all those marathons I participated in.
Longest book: The Journeyer at 1219 pages.
Shortest book: Green Arrow (2010-2011) #11 at 19 pages. Fun fact: this was also the least popular book I read this year with only 2 other people who also read it.
Most popular book: A Game of Thrones. Not surprising at all.
Average length: 339 pages.
Average rating: 3.7

message 39: by Lori Z (new)
