Diane wrote: "Dawn wrote: "Yeah, same, I’ve read three, dnf’ed one, and don’t want to read another, so that just leaves one for those three months ^_^"Which one did you DNF, Dawn?"
The Bear and the Nightingale ^_^
Allison wrote: "Voted for TC&tC, City of Bones and Cloud Atlas (although I'd already voted for Cloud Atlas so I'm afraid I wasn't much help!) :-)"Thank you! :-*
I’m bummed TC&TC fell out of the top. I need to read it to and already voted for it. LolAnyone up for a buddy read if it doesn’t make it? I’m afraid if no one else is there to motivate me I’ll never read it.
I voted for everything that I haven't read and that I own in some format, which is a shameful amount (I should be charged with neglect). The City and The City is amongst them and I'd be happy to hop on to a BR of it if it fails to make the Top 6.
City of Bones especially would be wonderful! I've read the first chapter and it was so good that I bought it right away. Mysterious, probably far future fantasy setting, cool characters, author also created Murderbot, ancient ruins under the sand... yum!I've already read a Le Guin book last year. You can't make me read another one so soon!
(Joking, I'm sure she's great, just hasn't really clicked with me personally yet. It's me, not her! *hides quickly*)
P.S. When I wrote this, it somehow looked as if 4 out of the 6 top books were Le Guin, which is why I wrote the above. Since then a lot more comments appeared. Now I see it's only 1 or 2 out of 6, so there does seem to be a good variety. :D
Dawn wrote: "Brick wrote: "Voted. I noticed The Left Hand of Darkness is number one in the running. If that one is chosen I'm really eager to dig into it! I've never read anything written by Ursula..."Awesome!!
I already voted for The City and the City, so I can't help there. If anyone is interested in Alif the Unseen, that's one I'm really hoping makes it because I own it and have been wanting to read it for a while.

I added a vote for TC&tC, I'd definitely like to read some more Mieville. I'm also putting out another plug/plea for City of Bones and The Bear and the Nightingale.
There's over 2 1/2 weeks left to vote and vote again, lots can happen in that time.
Thanks for the C&C vote, Meredith. I put an additional vote in for Bear and Nightingale. I've already read it, it is a beautiful use of Russian fairytales.

Would someone please kindly explain to me what the "rereads" lists are all about? What is meant by "rereads"?-thank you!!
Wetbook wrote: "Would someone please kindly explain to me what the "rereads" lists are all about? We vote to see which books are most likely to have more than one person interested.
sorry my re reads arent on the list. Just finished Laurell Hamilton's anita blake series, now onto Joel SHepherd's Cassandra series. Your re reads all seem to be "classic" old books or really modern ones

Okay, thanks you!!
Darn, I am reading Elantris now! I should of waited, but libraries are fickle in the timing. I am going to try and grab Six of Crows to start, though! It has such good reviews!

Rereads starting tomorrow!
In the current situation, a mild CW might be necessary for Elantris. Not really the same thing at all, but it does have a plague of sorts, and people being quarantined.
I'm waiting on a library hold for Elantris. I'm thinking of reading All the Birds too, but not sure yet
Oh yes, but if someone is looking for a break from reading about quarantines, it's good to know in advance. And like I said, not at all the same thing.
I will also be a few days late starting Elantris. I just finished Way of Kings and am now listen to Anthony’s *Without You* for something really different.
Amanda wrote: "I read All the Birds last year but am looking forward to the discussion."ditto here, but I have yet to start Elantris. I need to finish the Raksura series first though
Diane wrote: "Haha! People after my own heart! I run a guild on Habitica called Read Your Books and we do challenges designed to get you to read the books you already own. Last year I read 48 books that I’d owne..."I joined the Read Your Books guild. My Username there is Lett. :-) Which is yours?
I want to make sure I understand re-reads. Is this stuff that we voted on but did not make the cut? I am not understanding where the list is being pulled from. Also, will we be voting in May?
Yes, I am new to the group and just noticed the re-reads link in the email.
I know the world is on lockdown but we are still reading...

Yes..."
it's books the group has read before and we'll be rereading them, or in a lot of cases, reading for the first time for some of us

They were group picks from over a year ago, correct? Obviously they are things that the group has read- hence the name - but I do not understand where there is a list of everything the group has read.

Anna has listed a bunch of ways you can see all of the group books: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
She also describes the process of choosing the re-reads in the first post on this thread. We vote every 3 months. The re-reads through June are listed in the second post. We'll vote again next month, and at that point the mods will re-open the form for voting, which lists all of the group books that are eligible for an official re-read. In the meantime, you're always welcome to suggest a buddy read for any of the group books!
Kaa wrote: Anna has listed a bunch of ways you can see all of the group books: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... Thank you, Kaa that is what I was looking for. I did read the first post but did not see this link.
Also, thanks for answering the question about the May vote. I saw that is when we should vote but was unsure with all that is going on in the world that we would vote. Thanks Again
Thanks CBR and Kaa for filling in while the mods had a fifteen hour snooze! (Well I did, Allison and I don't coordinate our snoozes)The first post only has a link to the bookshelf, I'll update it to add all the different ways you can see what's on the group shelf :)
Anna wrote: "Allison and I don't coordinate our snoozes."You both handle the group so well I refuse to believe this ;)
