Giulia | 117 comments I totally was disappointed by that book Erin. I'd been wanting to read it for ages, but when I finally did I didn't love it like I expected to. Too bad since I lived the premise of the series.

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy it, Jewel. I've read other reviews with similar opinions. I'm a total sucker for shifter romance so it was right up my alley ;).

Lol! I read some criticism about the actual 'mystery' storyline so I don't know if you'd care for the book. I was all about the alpha male shifter myself :).

Both Lauren and Noni Fro recommended it and as Lauren and I rarely disagree on mysteries, it might work fine for me. I'm also a shifter fan, especially the feline types:)

By the way, I finished listening to House Rules by Chloe Neill, Chicagoland Vampires #7, and enjoyed it (minus the Ethan/Merit drama). Did we have a discussion set up for this? If not, I wouldn't mind putting together a few discussion questions.

I'm now listening to Captivated by You by Sylvia Day, Crossfire #4.

I really enjoyed Pride Mates (Shifters Unbound, #1) by Jennifer Ashley and the sequel Primal Bonds (Shifters Unbound, #2) by Jennifer Ashley . The third book was meh though and I was about to call it quits on the series when I read #4 (because the build up to it in #3 was the only thing that the book had going for it). #4 turned out to be my absolute favorite and I'm hooked again :0)

Yay! Glad you enjoyed it. Apparently it wouldn't be a Chicagoland novel without the Ethan/merit drama. Although I'm happy to say that this aspect has much improved in the more recent instalments!

I didn't actually check to see if there was a discussion set up.

If anyone else is interested, Jonetta has posted 2-3-4 discussion questions for SWEET JUSTICE and it would be great to see your responses, too!

There's a buddy read underway to finish this series this upcoming month.

I'm reading Dearest Rogue (book 8 Maiden Lane) by Elizabeth Hoyt. This is Lady Phoebe's story, and I have been looking forward to it for quite a while.

I finished reading Sweet Revenge by Christy Reece, Last Chance Rescue #8, and, while I enjoyed the story, it is probably the weakest in the series. It has some really good moments but too much repetition of the hero waffling about his feelings. And, I needed more from the ending. 3.5 stars and review to come.

I also finished listening to Captivated by You by Sylvia Day and think I understand why this extra book was considered necessary by the author. While nothing really spectacular happens, it does focus on Eva and Gideon's relationship development and it's well done. 4 stars and review to come.

I'm now reading A New Hope by Robyn Carr, Thunder Point #8 as I need a break from suspense for a moment. I'm also listening to Suddenly One Summer by Julie James. Though the author doesn't officially include this in her FBI/US Attorney series because the lead characters aren't agents or attorneys, they're of that series world.

A weaker book by Christy is a pretty good one by most other authors:) She just sets the bar pretty high. Still liked it.

No, I'm still behind, I have book 3 on my plan for this month.

And I agree, a weaker book by Christy is still better than most. 3.5 stars isn't bad either, balancing between "liked" and "really liked" lol

Liz (Bugetta) (bugetta) | 399 comments I finished Frostbitten Frostbitten (Women of the Otherworld, #10) by Kelley Armstrong by Kelley Armstrong and loved it. It's one of my favorites of the series. I loved being back with Elena and Clay. I'm enjoying the Women of the Otherworld so much, I decided to keep going, so now I'm listening to Waking the Witch Waking the Witch (Women of the Otherworld, #11) by Kelley Armstrong .

I've been reading a lot of stand-alones lately and one I just finished, Kick at the Darkness by Keira Andrews was so good, I'm dying for it to be a series. It starts off like it's going to be a college romance and then there's a zombie apocalypse (well they're zombie-like) and it turns into an enemies to lovers road romance full of action and danger and I just adored the main characters.

I finished listening to Black Arts (book #7 Jane Yellowrock) by Faith Hunter. I really enjoyed this one and hadn't realized how much I'd missed Jane and Beast. Good addition to the series.

Now I'm just rolling right into the next book Broken Soul (Book #8 Jane Yellowrock).

I finished A New Hope by Robyn Carr, Thunder Point #8 and enjoyed it a lot! The hero is quite unconventional, full of passion and exuberance. It's a real feel-good story, too.

I also finished listening to Suddenly One Summer by Julie James, narrated by Karen White. I loved the story and couldn't put it down. It really is part of the FBI/US Attorney series as several characters appear in the book. I think James is blundering by positioning it otherwise. For those following the series, consider it #6.

I'm now reading Unforgiven by B. J. Daniels, Beartooth Montana #1, and listening to Breaking Silence by Linda Castillo, Kate Burkholder #3.

Oh I disagree in both counts. I think she's right positioning it as a standalone. People are too afraid to jump in long established series because they feel they have to start at the beginning and there's no background whatsoever in the characters from the series, they just show up now and then. One of my friends read it without reading the other books in the series and didn't feel lost at all.

I enjoyed the book but I feel JJ needs to step out of her comfort zone a bit. I'm getting tired of the perfectly beautiful, successful, lawyer heroines.

There's the distinction of having a book be able to standalone without necessarily being lost by not reading the previous books and then character continuity. There were four characters from the previous books in this story, three with significant roles. For those of us where this matters, my comment stands.

Liz (Bugetta) (bugetta) | 399 comments I finished Diving in Deep Diving in Deep (Florida Books, #1) by K.A. Mitchell by K.A. Mitchell. It's actually the first book in her Florida Books series, but I read book two first (I know! The horror! :)).

Book two in this series, Collision Course Collision Course (Florida Books, #2) by K.A. Mitchell was the first m/m romance I read and it's been three years now, so I'm going to re-read it. It will be interesting to see how it holds up after all the 100s of m/m romance stories I've read since!

Yes, I noticed that and was wondering why it isn't included in the series list. It seems strange. Perhaps James wants to distance herself from the FBI/US Attorney association because the books are contemporary romance and not RS.

That's a good point and as the storylines in the series are all self contained with no continuous arc then it makes sense to publish it as a standalone. It could also encourage new readers to go try out the earlier books.

She said she excluded it from the series because neither of the main characters are an FBI agent or U.S. Attorney.

Then under that logic, none of them should be in the series.

I hate when authors do this in an attempt to sell to new readers. It's confusing to the old. The main character in the story is the best friend of one the main characters in a previous book, who also is significant in this one. For those who think character continuity is important, this makes a difference.

Nothing annoys me more than to feel I "missed" something when reading a book that ends up being connected to other books or a series.
