Book 8 comes out this month, so I'm going to try to get caught up within the next few months. I like to space these out though, they're like my reward for staying on track with my plan, haha.

I also finished Scream for Me by Karen Rose, Romantic Suspense #8, another chilling installment in the series. It's one of the best to date. 5 stars and review to come.

Monica | 860 comments I finished Duke of Midnight (book #6 Maiden Lane) by Elizabeth Hoyt and this is my absolute favorite of the series. Artemis is one of my top heroines now. She is exactly what I like in a character. Loved her. And Maximus! Oh, Maximus. Loved him, too. Their romance is one of the best I have read in a very, very long time. Besides that, the story itself was just so good. I'm moving right on to book book 7, Darling Beast

Erin (erin36) | 484 comments I finished listening to Biting Bad and Wild Things which are books 9 and 10 in the Chicagoland series by Chloe Neill. I really liked the first a lot and I loved the second!! The ending of Wild Things is making it really hard not to jump right into the next book! I have already taken audio of It Had to Be You (7th book in the Lucky Harbor series by Jill Shalvis) out of the library though so I'm going to try to listen to it first!

D.G. I'm almost done with Shards of Hope (Psy-Changeling, #14) by Nalini Singh , good book and necessary in the series but I'm not a fan of Psy couples so I'm not feeling these two. The only Psy couple I'd like to see a novella would be Nikita Duncan and Anthony Kyriakus.

Anyhow, I just started The Mummy Case (Amelia Peabody, #3) by Elizabeth Peters and I started laughing right away. Emerson and Amelia are so freaking original...one of my favorite couples in fiction. They are just too funny together.

Glad you're enjoying it D.G.
I started listening to the Rosenblat version but had to return it to Audible. I managed to get the Susan O'Malley version on eBay and am writing for it to arrive. Unfortunately, I've just learned that O'Malley only recorded versions for books 1-6 so it looks like I'll have to suck it up and read books 7-16 even though its 1st person narration :0(
Perhaps it will be easier because I already have O'Malley's voice in my head, lol!

It's been a bit since I posted!

I finished reading Sweet Justice by Christy Reece, Last Chance Rescue #7, and loved it! Here's my review.

I also finished reading Ember by Kristen Callihan, the Darkest London prequel, and it filled in a lot of spaces. I think a case can be made to read it first, too. Here's my review, as well as the review for Firelight.

I finished listening to Snow Blind by P.J. Tracy, Monkeewrench #4, and enjoyed it but like Melissa, had some mixed feelings. Here's my review.

So true, though there are a few I wish had a second book either to follow secondary characters or continue the romance. :) And I'm reading a lot of books I purchased over a year ago, so making a dent in my tbr (and then quickly filling it again with new book :-D). :)

And there's the rub, Liz. When they're really good, we want more...turning into a series. A happy medium would be to limit them to a trilogy:)

message 1636: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh that's too bad, Lauren! Let's hope you're able to read the later books in the series. I'm enjoying this one a lot.

Personally, I enjoy standalones a lot and wish more authors would write them. Lots of people out there just gave one good idea for a book so they shouldn't try to turn everything in a series!

message 1637: by Monica (last edited May 26, 2015 06:32PM) (new)

Monica | 860 comments Jonetta wrote: "And there's the rub, Liz. When they're really good, we want more...turning into a series. A happy medium would be to limit them to a trilogy:)"

Trilogies would be perfect in most cases. Sometimes when I read a trilogy, I feel relief. But then when you find out the trilogy was stretched out for more, I get stressed out! And there have been instances when I have refused to acknowledge the "added" on books (Mortal Instruments, I'm looking at you).

And then there are the series that I want to last forever and ever (the ones that have a new couple or character per book), as long as the stories don't get stale or story lines recycled. Very few don't though unfortunately.

Then like D.G., it's so refreshing to read a completely satisfying standalone.

Yeah, that would be easier to handle - there are all these series I'm interested in that have 8 or more books and it's overwhelming to even think of starting them. I know myself, though, and I'm sure if they were all just trilogies, I'd get to book three and wish there were more books. :-D

We can't be pleased can we?:)

I must admit, though, that I'm frustrated with those series that started out as only a trilogy and morphed into something longer. In most instances, it's been a bust.

For me it depends on if it follows one couple or if it's a new couple in each book.

Usually, unless it's a UF where the relationship is not the central story, I don't need five books (let alone three) to get to a satisfying HEA. In fact, some series I've dropped or been in no hurry to get back to, it's because I'm ready for a new couple to get their time in the spotlight (Guild Hunters comes to mind - though I'm not super fond of Raphael, so one book was enough for me and there are at least three where he and Elena are the central couple).

If there are secondary characters that are interesting to me and I like the world building (whether it's a small town or a Victorian steampunk world), I'll keep reading.

It can be difficult to continue with a series focusing on one couple if one or the other is unappealing. I love Raphael so I had no problem with the Guild Hunters but Nancy Gideon's Moonlight series is like that for me. The heroine can be very annoying. Nevertheless, the ongoing storyline is excellent and I really like the secondary characters. Thankfully, I'm up to the book that focuses on a different couple so I'm hopeful.

I finished listening to One to Protect by Tia Louise, One to Hold #3, and enjoyed it the most of all the stories to date. The dual narrators were used for female and male POVs but weren't used within each other's POV (hope that makes sense). It was a little strange but I still enjoyed their performances, Christian Fox's more than Lucy Rivers. His was just a standout.

I started this series thinking it was a trilogy (the series list hadn't been updated) and now it's up to seven books. I'm just not that invested enough to continue but this book had a controversial ending....time will tell.

I'm getting ready to start a road trip today and will be listening to House Rules by Chloe Neill, Chicagoland Vampires #7.
