Karen Ketterer | 4 comments Hello this is regarding the audiobook Take Control of Your Life: How to Silence Fear and Win the Mental Game by Mel Robbins. It is an Audible Original and only available as and Audiobook. I searched for the book on Goodreads and could not find it. Then I tried to add it manually but it would not allow me because the ASIN number is already in use (presumably used by this book but I can't find the book anywhere on the site). Here is the information. I just want to be able to access the book and add it to my Books I Read pile. :)

Emily | 17726 comments This does not count as a book by Goodreads standards. It is more of a "podcast" or "production" rather than a book. It has been marked as "not a book" before, so that is why it was unable to be added to the database.

Karen Ketterer | 4 comments Hmm. Well that is disappointing as every other Audible Original that I have listened to has always been found here. Some which were much less "book like" than this one.

Emily | 17726 comments Many of them are actual audiobooks, but as librarians come across the ones that are not, we mark them as not a book.

Karen Ketterer | 4 comments Well I would love for the librarians to reconsider this. It is no different than many of the self help books I have listened to on Audible in the past and much more of a book format than some of the other audible originals I have listened to and found on here. It was a very helpful book and I would like to be able to remember it by adding it to my shelf as well as reviewing it and reading other’s reviews. It seems quite random that this book is excluded.

Librarians don't make policy as we are only volunteers, not staff. Any policy questions should be directed to GR support- https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta....

M | 57 comments belated reply here... Many other Audible Originals are excluded from GoodReads, but perhaps they are not ones you have listened to yet.
It's a complicated issue in this era of the audio production (podcasts, books on CD, and Audible Originals, which are usually something in between; the renaissance of the classic radio shows), especially to those uninitiated in the GoodReads Librarian policies.
The original poster's description of the book is "a powerful mix of one-on-one life-coaching sessions and a personal narrative." Coaching sessions are presumably not scripted and are instead like a conversation/interview. That's why this is not a book.

The problem is, it is not just the interviews. Each interview is followed by a long commentary, the whole book has an introduction and a closing chapter that is not an interview either. It would work perfectly well in a printed book format with transcription of the interviews. It's definitely a hybrid format, but still should be counted as an audiobook.

Karen Ketterer | 4 comments That is my thought exactly. This could easily be made into a print addition of a book and even includes a written workbook. It just seems as if the rules should err on the side of inclusion. If I went on my podcast app and listened to a podcast I would not expect to find it here but when I buy a book on audible and listen to it I logically expect to find it here and be able to interact with others about this title. I thank you all for your responses but still respectfully disagree with the ruling.
