This may be a good time to ask this question. I found "Leaf by Niggle" and "The Cricket on the Hearth" not especially Christmas themed. So, does the story have to have a Christmas theme or what other types of stories do you think are a good fit?

I would say yes, it should explicitly have some connection to Christmas but let me think about it. Those are the two stories I have not read yet.

Now that I think of it, the Tolstoy story wasn't specifically about Christmas either.

You are right!
It is part of several Christmas story compilations I know of, that's where I first read it and why I included it. Of course, when the author is Tolstoy, you're not just going to blow past it. :-)

Celia (cinbread19) | 117 comments I think the Tolstoy book is an excellent Christmas read. I received the book FOR Christmas in 2007 and read it then for 5 stars. I am reading again with this group.
