Michaela was assigned to pick books for July.

Cathy was assigned to pick books in August (msgs 52 & 53).

Yes Michaela - you are picking July's books. Cathy just posted a little earlier than normal.

Thanks! When should I post them? And only one has to be on one of the themes?

You can post them or message them to me around the 20th of June. And yes, only one has to have a theme. Have fun!

Thanks, will do! :)

Michaela Theme for July is Cooking - Bakery: I chose The Peridale Café Mysteries by Agatha Frost, starting with Pancakes and Corpses. Pancakes and Corpses (Peridale Cafe Mystery #1) by Agatha Frost

The second book is from the Patricia Smith Cruise Mysteries by Steve Higgs, starting with The Missing Sapphire of Zangrabar. The Missing Sapphire of Zangrabar (Patricia Fisher Mysteries #1) by Steve Higgs

Hope you´ll enjoy!

QNPoohBear | 1196 comments Good choice Michaela. I have several Peridale Cafe books downloaded from when the author offered them free to entertain readers during the shelter-in-place time. I haven't read them yet. It's not my favorite series. It needs recipes. Don't tell me she develops the best ever chocolate cake recipe and not share!

message 65: by Michaela (new)

Michaela I downloaded them too during this time QNPB! Pity about not having recipes! :)

Ashley - you had volunteered, but we never picked a month. I know it's last minute, but would you like to choose for September?

message 67: by jaxnsmom (new)

Yikes! I just realized we don't have anyone to choose our books for November. Anyone want to volunteer? And I hate to rush you but they need to be picked really soon.

message 68: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1196 comments Is the theme selector thread updated? I don't think it is. I'm not sure I want to volunteer without double checking the themes used.

Alice | 756 comments I can volunteer again if you need someone of November let me know if QNPoohBear cannot. I have many cozies

Themes used has been updated. Since you were first to volunteer, why don't you choose for November?

Do we have anyone who hasn't chosen books this year who wants to choose for December?

Otherwise, Alice, do you want to?

message 73: by Alice (new)

Alice | 756 comments Sure otherwise more than happy to wait until 2021.

message 74: by QNPoohBear (last edited Oct 21, 2020 03:31PM) (new)

QNPoohBear | 1196 comments Thank you. I'll choose for November. I love English village cozies and since some of you have discovered Beryl & Edwina, I'll choose Murder in an English Village and Death Comes to the Village, a Regency set story but not the typical Regency romance.

message 75: by Michaela (new)

Michaela Sounds great QNPB, and I even got the first one at home!

Good choices. Looks like your theme is English village.

I've posted the Beryl & Edwina mystery. Your second choice, Death Comes to the Village, was a group read last year. It's a little too soon for a repeat. Do you have an alternate choice? Your member's choice series does not have to fit a theme.

Thanks for doing this so quickly.

message 77: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1196 comments Sorry I was out all day. It looks like the group has read a lot of my favorites already. I'm going to choose one from Amazon Kindle in case your libraries aren't open
Cabs, Cakes, and Corpses
Free on Kindle Unlimited or $2.99 to download.

message 78: by Michaela (new)

Michaela Thanks again that the other book is rather cheap on kindle!

The whole series is a lot of fun. You do have to kind of suspend disbelief a bit. I enjoyed the local color and the eccentric Abuelita and Tia Rosa. Bonus: Frequent Jane Austen mentions. I relate a lot to Jessica! I looked up Baños and it's a real place and the locations Jessica visits are real too. Only the characters are fictional but the mayor's name bears a strong resemblance to the real mayor's name LOL!

Let me know if you if you want me to pick books for December I am more than happy to let someone else have a turn to pick. I do have books we can use otherwise.
