Risque novel set in the 70s, famous author using a pen name

Hi! My mom had this title lying around in the early 90s, but it was pretty beat up even then. I believe the author was famous, but was using a pen name as it was pretty racy.

It was about a young woman (early 20s?) meeting a photographer. She wanted to be famous...he saw her walking down the street and picked her up. I remember that when she went to his "pad" she dug her toes in the shag carpet. There were parties, drugs, etc.
