Book Synopsis:
The summer holidays are dragging on and Harry Potter can't wait for the start of the school year. It is his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and there are spells to be learnt, potions to be brewed and Divination lessons (sigh) to be attended. Harry is expecting these: however, other quite unexpected events are already on the march ...

I'm definitely joining this one! I've been re-reading the series and have been waiting to start GoF! I'm excited!

I started this yesterday, and I finished the first 3 chapters. My thoughts to come.

This is actually the first ever Harry Potter book that I ever read, right after the 4th movie came out I decided to give it a try.

Chapter 1 (Don't read if haven't read the whole series) (view spoiler)[As I was reading the first chapter this one line stuck out big time with me "I will allow you to perform an essential task for me, one that many of my followers would give their right hands to perform..." I just thought it's funny because it's true. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 2 (view spoiler)[It's nice for Harry to realize that he does have a parent that he could talk to about his scar hurting or just about anything else. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 3 (view spoiler)[I love how all it takes for Harry to get his way is to bring up Sirius Black and I also think it's funny that the whole house has to go on a diet because the school nurse says Dudley is to big to fit into the school knickerbockers. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4 (view spoiler)[I love the Weasley's so them coming through the chimney to pick up Harry, and Fred dropping his toffees on the floor and Dudley eating one and his tongue growing huge was a funny scene. Seems to me every time Dudley meets wizards something bad happens to him. Also when Harry says goodbye and the Dursley's ignore him and it doesn't surprise Harry but then Mr. Weasley asks then if they didn't hear Harry saying goodbye, just goes to show how badly they treat him that they can't even say goodbye to him, and Mr. Durley nearly chokes saying it. Just finished chapter 6 (view spoiler)[While reading the scenes with the Weasley's I always wondered why they never had any scenes in the movies with Charlie, he is in quite a few scene in the books and so is Bill but you only meet him in the 7th movie. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 8 (view spoiler)[The movie made it out to be that Harry and the Weasley's had really bad seats for the World Cup but in fact they were in the same box as the Malfoy's and the Mister of Magic. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 9 (view spoiler)[Reading the scene were Winky is found with Harry's wand and everybody yelling at her and accusing her of summoning the Dark Mark, and then Mr. Crouch telling her he was gonna give her clothes just because she got scared and didn't stay in the tent, it makes me angry. I'm totally with Hermione with her whole S.P.E.W thing. (hide spoiler)]

Order of the Phoenix is my favourite book, I think I have read it at least 5 or 6 times, and Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite movie.

Chapter 2 (view spoiler)[Harry always seems to make the mistake of keeping things from Dumbledore. I know Dumbledore kept a lot from him too, but for much different reasons. But at least he confided in Sirius. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 3: the part with Mrs. Weasley's letter makes me laugh everytime! And I love Harry's response. His wittiness/sarcasm is one of the things I loved most when I first read the books. He isn't just a goody-goody kid. He talks back when pushed, like any normal kid, and he's so funny.

Chapter 6: Don't read the spoiler if you haven't read the whole book already: (view spoiler)[the introduction of the portkey was so simple, yet it turns out to be so relevant later in the book. Also, it's so sad and ironic how Amos talks/brags about how Cedric can tell his grandkids about beating Harry, when it turns out he doesn't survive the school year. (hide spoiler)]

Yay got around to this one now. Just read the first 4 chapters or so.

(view spoiler)[This book has one of the funniest Dursley chapters... Haha I love the reactions they have towards Arthur, they're priceless, and his excitement about the TV. Always found it funny. Sad they didn't have it in the movie. I also find it funny that Harry uses Sirius as a thread towards them.

My favorite movie is also Prisoner of Azkaban, I think it's mostly because I think Alan Rickman is awesome in that one (he is always, but in this one in particular). My least favorite movie was The Half Blood Prince.

Favorite book is either Goblet of Fire or Deathly Hallows. I have troubles deciding between those two. So I'm happy to be here again :)

Chapter 23: (view spoiler)[I really like that Krum asked Hermione to the ball! I also noticed the first mention of the Room of Requirement (Dumbledore mentions it when talking about Hogwarts mysteries and finding a bathroom when he needed one)! Jo is so brilliant in how she so very carefully placed these seemingly non important things in the storyline when they are going to become so important later! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 28: don't read spoiler unless you've read the book before! (view spoiler)[it makes me sad that Cedric's days are winding down. And if only Harry had taken Crouch with him, they could have avoided his death. Crouch was so close to getting help! It was also really cool when Dumbledore sent his patronus to Hagrid...I wish I could be in the Order of the Phoenix! (hide spoiler)]

Exactly! I started out liking Percy, but he turns into a real rat-fink in this book!

The 3rd task: (view spoiler)[I'm still in the middle of this chapter, but I've had a few thoughts. One, I don't want to finish it because I know how it ends! Second, can the spectators see what's going on inside the maze? If not, that's pretty boring for them to just sit there and wait to see who wins, but I suppose it was the same during the 2nd task when they were all underwater. If they can see, then they would see what Moody was up to, I assume. Or that Harry wasn't encountering much. so I guess they can't. You would think at least Dumbledore would be watching, though. Chapter 33: (view spoiler)[I never noticed this before, but Voldemort tells his Death Eaters that Bertha Jorkins is the one whom told him that he had a faithful Death Eater waiting to help him. How did she know that Crouch Jr was alive? I can't remember if this is explained later, because I don't even remember this piece of info. (hide spoiler)]

I finished! (view spoiler)[I think this book was the turning point in the series. Not just because Voldemort returned, but the books become more serious and heavy. Even though there were deaths in the first books, this was the first book where the reader witnesses the death of someone good, and someone we know. Cedric's character was developed in the book and I know I grew to care about him. From here on out we learn that none of our beloved characters are really safe. (hide spoiler)]

I have to get back to reading this, I got so many books planned for December that this one has been pushed to the side quite a bit, I hope i finish it sometime in December.

(view spoiler)[I love Hermione for SPEW. Even though she is rather annoying with her badges and her joining fee the fact that she hates the injustice and stands up for what she believes in when others don't care is fantastic.

I really don't like the house-elf thing and how some of the other magical creatures are treated in the wizarding world. The way that the wizards feel superior and won't let them use wands, etc is not that far off how Voldemort thinks of humans. Though I do like that JK Rowling didn't have the wizarding world be too perfect as it makes it feel more realistic. (hide spoiler)]

I just started and the first chapter really sets the scene doesn't it?! I think this is the turning point in the series where the books become that much darker

There are so many funny scenes and lines in this book.

There are so many times where I get infuriated by one or more of the trio when they have some silly falling out or get jealous or angry at each other but it makes them feel like real people with a real friendship.

Ch 23 - Yes, this is what makes rereading the books such a pleasure. All the little hints and mentions of things that come into play later. I've read quite a few books whose authors need to take a few notes on the subtlety because their clues were so blatant or their red herrings so obvious it was like being hit over the head with them.

Exactly! Or the opposite where it's obvious the author didn't have it all planned out and at the last minute they throw something in, really quick, to set up what's coming. That really annoys me, too. Jo successfully throws these small nuggets in quietly throughout the series and you don't even notice them until later on when you go back and realize, "aha! I see what she did there!"
