Oh I hadn't thought about that (view spoiler)

I just finished chapter 7 (I have read the series before) and it strikes me how clever JKR is to create this world cup which brings all the adult and kid characters together for more than just a few scenes. Otherwise she may have gotten stuck with always having the setting as Hogwarts or Privett Drive. I love that she does these things to keep the stories fresh, moving, and also introduce parts of the side characters or new magic concepts/things that become important to the story later

Yes, that's when it happened. And yes, poor Ron! How embarrassed he must have been!

Interesting point Karen. I never have formulated it that way but I was agreeing with you as I was reading it.

I can ask for a new thread for that book and then everyone can just starts it whenever they want.

It'll be great Stephanie. Thanks!

I always like the bit where Ron first sees them. I think it's a good mix between Ron's indignation (they are awful) and Mrs Weasley's anger partly at Ron being ungrateful/complaining in front of Harry and partly her frustration/embarrassment at not being able to afford nicer ones.

Sure Abbie, we are all at different parts of the book and some people haven't read the series before so there are spoiler tags everywhere ;)

I've read through Chapter 7. I agree, Karen. This setting gives the opportunity to introduce new characters and see the main characters in new perspectives. I also agree that this book is where the series becomes much darker starting out in the first chapter.

Yes, it seems bring up Sirius name can get you a lot! Lol! I wish I had one of those names.

I enjoy the entire Weasley family. They seem to be the glue that holds Harry together.
I don't know what he would do without them.
They are quite funny in the Muggle world.

I haven't actually seen this movie yet. My 12 year old daughter and I are reading the series together, and we watch the movie after we read the book. It has been a great mother/daughter adventure!
But I hate when they change too much of the story during a movie.

They do change a lot of the story in the movie for this one, but I guess that's what happens when it's such a big book and they only have a certain amount of time to work with for the movie.

Oh that's sweet. I'm re-watching the movies at the moment (just watching #2 atm. They are quite changed, but I guess keep the main themes)

There's just one scene in the book that I love that that was never put in the movies, I'm not up to that part in the book yet so I don't know what chapter it's in but the scene is (view spoiler)

Yes I like this part of the book too. It is a nice moral story (continued later (view spoiler) and it shows Harry as just a nice decent fella

If our Mother/Daughter thing we do....So grateful I raised her right and she loves reading as much as I do. Not that she is at an age where we can read the same books and enjoy them!

Oh, I never noticed that before that is so sad!!!!
@Anita Yes! [spoilers removed]"
Yes, I loved this scene too! And the taffy! I love those twins!
I am literally just starting this lol It won't take very long once I get going, but I realize I am super far behind considering OotP started already.

Yes, it was good of him. I was surprised myself.
Harry is a good guy, but like Snape say, I think he does get to bend the rules more then other students.
How ever did his name get into that Goblet?

Don't feel bad, Taryn. I'm only on Chapter 9. Too many buddy reads, not enough time. lol

Ron was soooo jealous! Loved that Hermione finally got to show off a bit.

Only in the first couple of chapters but (view spoiler)
I think I mentioned in previous threads that the twins were my favorite characters in the series. I think it was in this fourth book though that I really started to like Fred more than George. In this book, he just tends to take the lead a lot.

There are so many times where I get infuriated by one or more of the trio when they have some silly falling out or get jealous or angry at each other..."
Yes, sometimes their little spats can get a little annoying.
And sometimes.....So can Harry....some comment he maxed, especially about Sirus when all he wanted to do it to protect Harry. He is after all his guardian.

In the fifth book I get so fed up with Harry, it's ridiculous. The trio have never really been my favorite characters honestly.

I just finished.
yes, I know what you guys mean about the trio being annoying at times. Actually I think Hermoine is getting less annoying and Ron and Harry more so... haha
I still really enjoy the books, though. With the re-read I felt sadder (view spoiler) . This is also the first one of the series that doesn't have a saccharine ending. A glimpse of what is to come....

So I've been trying to figure out why everyone likes HP better than other heroes in stories, and here's my personal opinion. Harry isn't a hero that thinks things through. He doesn't necessarily determine whether he is brave or not, he just acts instinctively and his bravery comes from his flawed personality. In a way, we all want to think we'd do the right thing if we were suddenly thrown into tough situations. And Harry usually does those right things without thinking about the uncomfortable consequences for himself. It isn't that he sets out to be brave, he just does what comes naturally to him in the heat of the moment. We all hope we'd act in the same manner when the shit hits the fan lol
I agree that is part of it Taryn. It is that "normal" boy thrown into an amazing world concept that draws people in, but because JKR wrote one story arc and then wrote the books, she was able to leave so many clues and foreshadowing and it is that part that also attracts the adults.
Also when the kids were 10/11 picking up the books they were then getting a new book when they were the same age as Harry which created a lot of relatability.

I think that's how I got hooked. I think i wouldn't have liked it nearly as much if I had just picked it up now. After rereading those first couple of books, I can tell that I just wouldn't have thought them great if I hadn't been about Harry's age. It's so cool to see how the story really fits the age group as the years go on.

That is what I love about this series too. JKR made him "real" for his age. As the books progress his maturity does noticeably too
