Joy The book I chose was Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. This novel is about a girl named Mia and her daughter Pearl and how their past is revealed when trying to start new in Shaker Heights. Pearl becomes close with the Richardson family. Questions start to be asked about Mia’s past and strange connections start to be made. Mrs. Richardson starts to look into Mia’s past, and she finds out the surprising truth about her life. Mrs. Richardson’s younger daughter, Izzy, who has an angry personality takes Mia’s metaphor about fires, and burns her house down which leaves her family and the whole city questioning why she would do such a thing. I enjoyed this book because it had many elements to it. It dealt with topics such as racism, life as a single mother, relationships, mental health, and adoption. The book had many twists and turns that kept me wanting to read more. The best part was the climax where Mrs. Richardson confronts Mia about her past and Izzy overheard their conversation. After this the story starts to unfold. My least favorite part is when Izzy sets her house on fire because there was no justification for it. This book was shocking so it actually exceeded my expectations. I would recommend this book to people that enjoy mystery and shocking elements in a story.
