On the awards page, the search box in the upper right says "find awards by name" - leading me to believe I can enter a word or two to narrow down the results of awards I'd need to look through to find an award.

I enter a word or two of the award name and click "search" but get no results - no matter what I search for. I searched on "kindle" - nothing. I saw the "Edgar Award" a few down on the page - searched on "edgar" - again nothing.

Am I doing something wrong or is the search function not working?

It would be VERY helpful to have this working for me.

Elizabeth (Alaska) The award search is case sensitive. Also it looks at exact sequencing. Edgar works fine.

Michelle | 386 comments Wow, I can't believe a search function is case sensitive!
But that did the trick. :)
Thanks so much, Elizabeth!

Elizabeth (Alaska) You're welcome. I'm thrilled that you want to use that page! (I think many don't even know it exists.)

Michelle | 386 comments :-) It's VERY helpful using that page and searching it so it's letter-perfect! Otherwise the book's award listing isn't clickable - missing out on seeing other books with that award, reading about the award organization, perhaps clicking the link to their website, etc.

Before reading the awards instructions I had no idea that even ONE LETTER off makes it wrong (Awards v. Award or Readers v. Reader) and links won't work.

Thanks again for your help!

Elizabeth (Alaska) You should be able to click on the the award on the book page and taken to the award page to see others of the same award.

Emily | 17491 comments I couldn't understand why I couldn't find anything til I realized it was case sensitive, which was not long ago. Thanks for working on those Michelle.

Michelle | 386 comments Elizabeth - right, that's what I was talking about with the links being clickable - BUT if someone uses the wrong award name it links solely to that one book that used it - no one else.

Emily - think I am going to focus on awards for a little while. Know it can be important to the authors. :)

Thanks, ladies!! :)
Appreciate you both!

Yes. I now flag award entries that are malformed. Librarians should learn how to do them or leave them for someone else. Staff should know about those who do not but who try to do them anyway. I'm more than happy to answer such questions, though I have been doing few awards the last several months.

Michelle | 386 comments Thanks so much for the offer of help! I'll probably be focusing on them for a little while, so you may hear from me again. :)
