Mockingjay
question
What if Peeta and Gale were both not available to Katniss?

Let's just say that Peeta never recovered and still has the urge to kill Katniss, and Gale died or something. Who else would you ship with Katniss? I would ship Pollux and Katniss= Kollux.

I think she would curl up in a corner and die (from Morphling overdose).
I think Pollux would be the only one alive...
no Finnick, no Peeta, no Gale, no Castor, no Messalla.
Everyone dies :(

I think she would have been alone. What other option would have had? Honestly I think she probably would have gone through with killing herself if Peeta hadn't been there to stop her.
I think she would have been fine by herself too. Though she and Haymitch might have ended up drinking themselves into liver failure in the epilogue. :) Okay, that's not exactly "fine" but she wasn't exactly peachy at the end anyway.
i think that if she didn't have either of them, she would ultimately have chosen to be alone and to find a way to be a person of authority and help rebuild. i feel like she wasn't the sort of person that needed to have an 'other half' - but it's something that would have been useful/nice.
the only downside is that i think she's got this quality to be 'hard' and 'cold' and without one of the guys, i feel like that would have manifested itself a bit more within her

I think she'd probably choose to be alone, not romantically involved with anyone.
Honestly I don't think she'd have even entertained a romantic relationship with either Peeta or Gale on her own if other people hadn't kept trying to push one on her.
My headcanon about her is that she is either asexual, aromantic, or some combination of the two. I think she does have deep feelings for both men, but they aren't romantic feelings.

If Peeta had died, I believe she would have been torn up. She had come to rely on him a great deal, after all (from what I remember). Not to say she wouldn't have recovered, though.
But she probably would have been even less happy at the end.

She be dead, because Peeta wouldn't have saved her when she tried to kill herself after killing Coin.
There pretty much wouldn't be a plot line. Most of it surviving the games, but with no romance no one would read it.
I would like it if Gale and Peeta died, then Katniss should stay single.
If Peeta and Gale were not available to Katniss then she'd probably go insane (if they had died). Either that or she'd maybe find some other guy to hunt with...if she was lucky.
The text gives us a pretty strong indication of what Katniss would have done, and it wouldn't have mattered if Gale was available or not.
At the beginning of Mockingjay she states that if she knew for certain that Peeta was dead, she would leave everyone - including Gale and Prim, too, by the way, and disappear into the wilderness, alone. Her other loved ones were safe, her obligations to protect them were done.
But interestingly their presence in her life wasn't enough to make her wish to live. She needed Peeta for that.
"If I knew for sure that he was dead, I could just disappear into the woods and never look back." (Ch.1)
In my mind, this is code for 'go off and die'. This line of thinking is verified later, after hijacked Peeta returns (and she feels he is lost to her). Her goal is to go to the Capitol, kill Snow for revenge for what he has done and to finally free Panem from the Hunger Games, and die.
"I'll stay in 2 until it falls, go to the Capitol and kill Snow, and die for my trouble. And he'll die insane and hating me." (Ch.14)
Remember, Gale was always safe and available throughout this time. Their kiss in D2 was motivated by her loneliness not by any actual attraction to Gale.
Her actions were motivated by the availability of Peeta.
At the end, when she returns to D12, she is contemplating how to end her life. When Peeta returns, everything turns around for her. It's a slow process but only his presence gives her the desire to start living again.
