I want to echo other recommendations for The Poet X. It's a novel-in-verse, so it feels as much a complete story as it does poetry. The author, Elizabeth Acevedo, is an acclaimed slam poet and voices the audiobook.

I’d highly recommend Teaching My Mother How to Give Birth by Warsan Shire. Very powerful, and I think I got even more from listening to it read by the author than if I’d just read it myself.
I'm still deciding on my book for this, so I went through and updated the GR list for this task. I think it now has most of the books recommended in this discussion: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1... Libro.fm also has a list here: https://libro.fm/bestsellers/poetry
Thank you Catie for your suggestion of Wade in the Water by Tracy K Smith. I think I’m going to enjoy it.
I had a physical copy of Brown Girl Dreaming but heard the audio was good so I got it through a library app.
This is my last task. I tried to do it earlier, but realized that it would be better for me to have the poems to look at while also listening. The library didn't have a hard copy of A Fortune for Your Disaster by Hanif Abdurraqib, but they do have the audiobook. I decided to just buy the physical copy. I am enjoying the experience. It helps that the author (in the audiobook only) tells the backstory of some of his poems.
