I believe this book was part of a series in the late 90s/early 00s. A group of elementary school girls shared an experience when they watched the Disney movies that they didn’t just want to be like the princesses, they in fact each were the living embodiment of the princess. I believe it took place in Orlando, and I believe one of the main characters was an African-American girl who thought she was Belle.
