The Way I Heard It by Mike Rowe
4 stars

I have been a fan of Mike Rowe's ever since his TV show Dirty Jobs. Dirty Jobs was on of my favorite shows and I loved watching him and to learn about what all those jobs entail, that you don't always think about.

Over the years, he's become an advocate for the "working man", those blue collar jobs that are underrated for their importance to our society.

This book is very similar to Paul Harvey's the rest of the story and Mike Rowe even says so in the introduction of the book. There are 35 stories that Mike Rowe tells but he doesn't tell you who the story is about until the end of the story. That's a lot of fun because it gives you the opportunity to see if you can figure out who the story is about.

His stories cover a variety of subjects but the overall theme is American History, highlighting some of our more famous movie stars (Mel Brooks) or Hedy Lamarr) and atheletes (Ted Williams). There were so many cool s stories about people I know of but didn't know much about.

Mike Rowe also mixes in some of his stories throughout the book, which were really interesting. I knew that he was a trained Opera singer and in this book he tells the story of how that ended up happening. He also talks about his time on QVC and other things that he's done during the course of his career.

Loved the audible version and I thought I would love his voice, but he has a unique and distinctive way of speaking that was a bit halting. It may have been more noticeable because I speed up everything I listen to to 1.25X. I also felt my mind wondering on a couple of stories, which is the only reason I didn't give him 5 stars. Part of that may not be his fault and more the fact that I have a lot going on in my life right now. In any regard, I thoroughly enjoyed this book!!!
