J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 2293 comments I2: Group Bingo Participant Pick

The Trial by Franz Kafka. A small book, a quick read, but a major classic.

A definite possibility.

Angie | 496 comments Great choices so far!

For Participant Recommendation: I'm not sure what all you've read, but if you like historical fiction, here are a few that I can heartily recommend.

The Mammy - delightful book about a widow trying to raise seven kids in Ireland during the '60s.
The Killer Angels - set during the Battle of Gettysburg
Kidnapped - a fun adventure story set in the 1700s
Kindred - mostly historical fiction/part sci-fi. A modern black woman is transported back to the early 1800s
The Last Days of Night - not a classic, but it's a great read. Set in late-19th century NY.

The Mammy ..."

Thank you. The Killer Angels is a definite possibility. I enjoy books about the civil war.

Angie | 496 comments If you like the Civil War, another option might be North and South by John Jakes. It's haven't read it since I was a teen, but I remember liking it back then.

Another good option. It is on my TBR shelf.

Luke (korrick) I'd recommend Native Son by Richard Wright. It's one of my absolute favorites.

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3694 comments I love seeing Lonesome Dove on these lists! You have some great choices Janet. I plan to read A Fine Balance next year and maybe Suttree and the Rabbit books.

Good luck with your challenge!

My pleasure. Also, kudos to you in tackling 'Suttree.' McCarthy is a favorite of mine, but I haven't yet mustered up the will to tackle that particular work of his.
