Great choices so far!

For Participant Recommendation: I'm not sure what all you've read, but if you like historical fiction, here are a few that I can heartily recommend.

The Mammy - delightful book about a widow trying to raise seven kids in Ireland during the '60s.
The Killer Angels - set during the Battle of Gettysburg
Kidnapped - a fun adventure story set in the 1700s
Kindred - mostly historical fiction/part sci-fi. A modern black woman is transported back to the early 1800s
The Last Days of Night - not a classic, but it's a great read. Set in late-19th century NY.

Thank you. The Killer Angels is a definite possibility. I enjoy books about the civil war.

If you like the Civil War, another option might be North and South by John Jakes. It's haven't read it since I was a teen, but I remember liking it back then.

I'd recommend Native Son by Richard Wright. It's one of my absolute favorites.

I love seeing Lonesome Dove on these lists! You have some great choices Janet. I plan to read A Fine Balance next year and maybe Suttree and the Rabbit books.

Completed my 2020 Bingo last night. "Lonesome Dove" was probably my favorite but the book that amazed me the most was "Inferno".
