SOLVED. Heroine is Princess Julia, set in someplace called New Haven, talking dog. [s]

I'm trying to find a book I read eons ago, yet all I can remember are those three things. There was a male protagonist as well, I think he was Julia's boyfriend or something. I am also nearly sure it was a talking dog, but it could have been another animal. The story itself I can't remember, but it was fantasy, and the theme was kinda dark (kinda like horror?)

I don't remember a talking dog in Beyond the Blue Moon. And Haven is really not a nice place. (Plus, in this particular book, Princess Julia--aka Fisher--and Prince Rupert--aka Hawk--are only in Haven for maybe the first 2 chapters. After that, they are in The Forest Kingdom (and yes, that really is the name of the country.)

There was a dragon in Blue Moon Rising, which is the first book in this series. But I really don't remember any talking dogs. . .

I just remembered-there is a talking dog in Beyond The Blue Moon as well-he's called Champ, and was a wizard's dog.
