Kristie | 19138 comments I'll have to ask Craig some of them too, but not until I've decided on a yay or nay for me. He's usually good at this sort of thing.

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments These are really tricky. I went through the questions I thought I knew and then later I will got through them again. I am doing well in sports so far

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Peggy wrote: "Here's to hoping that to comfort us, the nays will have the easy tasks ;-) "

My thought was that for the nays the task would be something like "You donkey, go read about this and learn something!". :D

message 54: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19138 comments So... I peeked at my example answer. lol It was driving me crazy! I had the animal correct and as soon as I saw the name I knew it. I immediately thought oh yes! Oh well. Maybe I'll have to think on the others more before deciding that I don't know the answer.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It works to wait a bit Kristie. I went through all the questions on the train but then on the way home and now on the couch new answers pop into my head when I'm not consciously thinking about them.

message 57: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Janice, you devil! You posted early!!! I haven't read it yet, probably won't get there til tomorrow but YIPPEE 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

message 58: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments Hey, I got an answer right because of a non-fiction book I read for this year's year-long challenge!!!

message 59: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4519 comments Wow I wish I could say I know a lot about nothing, but I know nothing about nothing. I can't wait to see what comes next.

Great start Janice!!

message 60: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19138 comments Yes, Peggy. I think I need to give the answers time to work themselves to the front of my brain again.

Way to go, Lanelle! That’s an unexpected and fun result.

Same here! I would not say I'm a sporty person yet I've got a lot in this category correct!

message 62: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I've had my first whizz through and answered the ones I thought I knew the answers too. And left the rest for now. Some of them I know I definitely don't know the answer to. But maybe I can pick up a few unexpected yays as my brain mulls things over. There are a few that I'm kicking myself over. I know I know the answer and like you Kristie, if I saw the answer, I'd go "Oh yeah!", but it's just not coming to mind at the moment. This is trixy Janice! I like it.

message 63: by Peggy (last edited Nov 25, 2019 01:52PM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I checked about 6 cards I completed so far. I have more yay's than I expected! I made a few lucky guesses and it really helped to give the questions that I knew I should know the answer to some time. Rob had some answers correct that I didn't get right (and the other way around) but I only used my own of course :)

I like that you give some additional explanation in the answers Janice!

message 64: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I tried drinking, it only helps the anxiety not your quality of answers in case anyone was wondering. After a few drinks you don’t care how many “nays” you have.

Lol... going to have some nay's nightmares!

message 68: by Jannene (last edited Nov 25, 2019 04:51PM) (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I’m disappointed how come the questions were not something more practical like the best weapon to kill a person or what drink has a women’s name in the title?

message 69: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Janice, I don’t know how you come up with all of this stuff. Very inventive.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Kristie wrote: "I feel like I should know so many of these, but I just am not good at trivia. My mind just goes blank. So I end up with answers like - What is the name of the first animal cloned from an adult soma..."

I knew the answer to this question because the critter shares its name with my best friend.

I have a lot more Nay answers than Yay answers too. It's funny the things you can answer correctly.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Peggy wrote: "I find the Europe-centered ones much easier than the American-centered ones. Which makes sense."

I had to pick through the cards because there were an overwhelming number of them that were based on US politics and history. I tried to get a good balance.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Margo wrote: "Janice, you devil! You posted early!!! I haven't read it yet, probably won't get there til tomorrow but YIPPEE 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊"

Somebody said that I posted last year's on Nov 25th. I'm not trying to set a standard, but I thought it would be fitting that I post the questions today. That way, you'll have till the weekend to answer them. I'll post the tasks either Saturday or Sunday. I'm still working on the overall challenge - how it will work, what the rules are etc.

message 73: by Trudy (new)

Trudy (trudyan) | 1779 comments Janice, this has to be one of the best challenges I’ve seen on Goodreads. And we haven’t even seen the tasks yet! Working my way through the trivia questions.

I have to tell you that I was reading some of the questions to my employee at lunch time and I had "Yay" for one which surprised me. How did I manage to get that question right? All I can think is that I must have had a lucky guess.

message 75: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Peggy wrote: "I like that you give some additional explanation in the answers Janice!"

I copied them right off the card. :) That extra explanation helped in coming up with the task.

If your brains haven't gone into overload, the yay tasks are based on the correct answer and the nay tasks are based on the initial questions. Maybe you can predict what those tasks might be.

LOL! I thought maybe you and Dominique might put your heads together if you planned on doing the challenge together like you did with the movie mania. I couldn't suggest it to you without giving it away.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Jannene wrote: "Janice, I don’t know how you come up with all of this stuff. Very inventive."

Things sometimes hit me like a thunderbolt. I kept seeing the word "trivia" whenever I'd track someone's book. Then it was "hmmm... Trivial Pursuit was a fun game." Next thing, I'm running out to the store to buy the game. I couldn't see the copyright sign anywhere on the packaging, so spent many nights poring over the cards, picking questions, thinking of possible tasks, driving people crazy making them answer the questions. My poor employee - lunch break was pure hell for her at times.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I only had 18/60 Sandra and Kristie.

I finished all of the questions and my statistics are in the first message in my thread.

There was a couple that I got half right but I counted them as Nay. A few that I got wrong, I am still shaking my head at. It was fun, but I am going home now and finish my current book.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Oh wow!! I was looking for something to procrastinate with this afternoon, and boy Janice you have delivered!

I'm thinking 15mins of minute writing, and then a card will get me through the arvo.

message 81: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Ah, a hint about the tasks! I suppose I could think of something, but knowing you it can go a hundred different ways so I'll just wait ;-).

I'm curious about the setup! Are we going to be gophering for 180 tasks? Wow, just realized that means you wrote 360...

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Peggy wrote: "Wow, just realized that means you wrote 360...."

I know, right? I'm never bitching about writing a monthly challenge ever again.

message 83: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Nov 26, 2019 04:38AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments So I thought I had a brilliant plan earlier, but it was the most frustrating experience ever. LOL! Well done Janice! You made writing sub-committee minutes look like a reward!! :P

I'm usually pretty good at trivia, but the list of things I am not good at include:
US Geography
US History
US TV shows
US Sport (who on earth compares a dead animal to a name I've never heard of before?)
US Food

Makes me miss the Australian edition of Trivial Pursuit.

Oh and I nearly answered the Dancing with the Stars question, and then realised you probably meant the US version, not the Australian one.

Thanks for making my afternoon at work more productive. And I'm sure there are more answers I know if I sleep on it. I have to know more...

Yes, you'll be gophering for 180 books. And yes, I wrote 360 tasks. There may be duplicates but I tried really hard to make each one different.

I tried to get an edition that would be more global. I was disappointed when I saw how geared it was to the US.

We were being true to the intent of the test. Plus, I found out she “really sucks” at geography and history. I failed geography in 6th grade and hated history because eventually it will repeat itself and you can learn it then! So, we were stuck or sunk... I figure we will have a lot of “nays” to work on together.

Um as someone from the US we didn’t really get that much of a leg up, I swear. Unless my tippling aided and abetted my failure.

Yeah we both suck at trivias!

message 99: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19138 comments Yeah... I'm not doing well either. I think you're right and we will all have a lot of nays to work with.

I don't think living in the US is an advantage for this, even with a lot of US based questions.

The true torture will be if we have “nays” on geography and history questions that we have to read up on them. Cue in audiobook and speed pushed to 2.5 with a lot of adult beverages. It makes everything more interesting. ;)~~~
