What is a Buddy Read?

This is an "Informal Buddy Read"
An “Informal Buddy Read” doesn’t have a discussion leader and participants are asked to consider some generic questions when making comments about the book. An example is here.

Book synopsis
Amy Curry is not looking forward to her summer. Her mother decided to move across the country and now it's Amy's responsibility to get their car from California to Connecticut. The only problem is, since her father died in a car accident, she isn't ready to get behind the wheel. Enter Roger. An old family friend, he also has to make the cross-country trip - and has plenty of baggage of his own. The road home may be unfamiliar - especially with their friendship venturing into uncharted territory - but together, Amy and Roger will figure out how to map their way

I am going to be starting today!!! I just have to do a little writing about the book I just read. I keep a book journal and write my personal feelings/thoughts about the books I read.. I know total dweeb. :P

So far I'm enjoying this read, I just started "There's No Surf In Colorado - Bowling for Soup"

(view spoiler)[I'm feeling really bad for Amy, not having any support and living by herself all these months after the death of her dad...makes a bit upset at her family. I like the author switching back and forth between past and present, it really is showing how much Amy loved her dad. So far Roger seems sweet, I expect to learn more about Hadley in this next chapter since they've just reached Colorado! (hide spoiler)]

I had no idea what to expect when I started this book. So far, I'm surprised at how hard it is to put down. I hope we learn more about (view spoiler)[Amy's dad's death and what happened with Roger and Hadley. (hide spoiler)]

I didn't get to read much this morning/today and tomorrow's a busy day for me. I'm going to volunteer at a cat rescue in NH. and it's far away so ugh - lol and then a family party at nighttime. Then Sunday I'll be going to the MSPCA to hang with the small animals and help there but I'll be able to read more on Sunday and look forward to it.

I am reading a little now before bed. :)

I finished the book. There's not much bad I can say about it. (view spoiler)[My questions got answered, Amy started to heal and Roger grew a pair. I think this was a beautifully written coming of age story and even though I want more of the story, I'm happy with the ending and don't feel like there are any unanswered questions. I'm about 75% in, and can I just say that I (view spoiler)[absolutely love Lucien! I admit, I had a moment where I really wanted him and Amy to have more of a moment, love Roger (but he needs to get his head out of Hadley land), my moment has passed, but I still love Lucien...he made an owl for her, come on! (hide spoiler)].

I honestly am only at page 60, but will spend time reading today/tonight...

(view spoiler)[ I'm super excited that Roger & Amy aren't following her mothers plans for their trip and that they're kind of being spontaneous about it all. I think it'll be more fun (not sure why I didn't just assume this was happening with the name of the book & all.. lol)

I just read the part where they were at Camp Curry and Cathy came up to Amy and asked about her dad.... and I teared up hearing how much of a hard time it was for her to talk about it; I get that. I am eager to understand what the accident was, what really happened, and feel so very badly for Amy. (hide spoiler)]

I have 7 kitties and 2 dogs, along with 2 bunnies, 2 guinea pigs and some hamsters & mice, it's a full time job here all on its own, but I like to volunteer when I can. :)

I know its a lot of animals, but they're my babies and I love them all so much - haha my life is pretty busy just caring for them.

(view spoiler)[ I really love Bronwyn already, and am sad that she isn't going to be a long term character in this book, although I feel like I can relate to Amy a lot so far and love her, too, of course.

I was so sad for Amy with her father's services and how she was so hoping for her mother to just fix it and her mom just went to bed, made me feel so bad for her. But I'm glad she went out instead of hanging in and sitting in self pity... I'm just kind of bummed that she seemed to have lost her virginity while grieving for her father. :\ (hide spoiler)]
