Katelyn, You've got such a wide range of interests it's hard to give suggestions.
You might have better luck perusing your friends' shelves, the shelves of other members you trust, your groups, including the found books in this group.
I have the opposite problem: I find too many books I want to read.

Also, if you like animals--the The Black Stallion series (all 90 million or so books in it) is good
and if you want fantasy, try Victory of Eagles series--its set in Napolionic times, and the 2 main characters are Captain Lawrence and his Dragon, Temeraire. Its a YA series, but very well written.
Another series by Diana Wynne Jones is The Dark Lord of Derkholm and its companion book The Year of the Griffin

If you are not familiar with Cynthia Voigt's kingdom series I highly recommend those 4. They follow each other at such a distance that you only hear a few remarks about previous characters who "existed" a generation or two before the current book's people. On Fortune's Wheel is my fave of the four, but Elske is pretty awesome too. Great adventures.
I think Victory of Eagles is 4th or so in the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. If you are interested in dogs try Robin McKinley's Deerskin.

I third the Temeraire series. But be careful with Robin McKinley's Deerskin. I would call it an adult book, with adult issues. It is not fun at all.
You might try Dragonhaven by Robin McKinley instead.If you like reading about animals, I recommend My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell. It's hilarious!

Well....I don't have favorites...cause all the one I add are my faves...but I love animal series like warriors, and harry potter. But all kinds of stuff like Marley and Me and Wesley the owl.

Also, both very funny and sad by Farley Mowat is Never Cry Wolf Amazing True Story of Life Among Arctic Wolves , a true story of Mowat researching some Canadian wolves. Great book.
Katelyn,I consider some parts of the Harry Potter books scary.
Recently, no scarier than Harry Potter in my opinion, I enjoyed Graceling .

I've read Island of the Blue dolphins but the second is good!
The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale is a great YA read, with her horse and geese being quite important to the story.I also recommend, despite their lack of animals, Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn, The Hollow Kingdom by Clare B. Dunkle (actually, there's a snake character in this one!), The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope, and Megan Whalen Turner's series about the thief Gen; The Thief, The Queen of Attolia, The King of Attolia... hope you like some of those :)

I'm not sure how old you are or what books you've read but people (including myself) are addicted to The Hunger Games and right now I'm reading it's sequel Catching Fire and I can tell it's gonna be really awesome. Not heavily animal based but they make an appearance. Falls into the science fiction genre.

Kately, I'm not sure if anyone suggested this one to you, but A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is one of my alltime faves. It's not a fantasy or about animals; it's about a young girl growing up in Brooklyn in the "olden days". Suggested it to my daughter, and she loved it, too. Happy reading!
A long time ago I read a cute "fish out of water" book about a guy and his wife who move from Manhattan to a tiny New England town, and all of the misadventure and misfortune that follows. It was hilarious, and I couldn't put it down. A few years later they made it into a movie, and while the movie was cute enough, it left out huge chunks that made the book so endearing. I always post a similar note because when people see the tile, the seem to just remember the mediocre movie. Give it a try - I doubt you'll regret it.Funny Farm

Yes. Chevy Chase was the only real "big name" in the movie. The book was absolutely hilarious. Then I gave it to my dad and he laughed for a few days until he was done.
In the book, Andy Farmer befriends some oddball brothers who live in the area, and they are virtually left out of the movie. They also left out a part where he's drinking, his wife pulls his keys, and he drives the tractor, and there's an accident on a county line, and the ensuing argument is classic. My favorite part is where he and the brothers try to rig a BINGO game, but I don't want to give away any more of that part. I never laughed so hard in my life.
