Dec 2019 Challenge - Archive Revive
Hey Saar, sorry for going silent, got hit with a snow storm in the middle of my moving week, made everything crazy.Since your book, The Travelling Cat Chronicles has a cat on the cover, I've decided to listen to the audiobook version of Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits as it also has a cat on the cover.
Also, sorry if I caused any confusion with my original post, I definitely misread how thing were supposed to go.
Did you figure out what you wanted to read?

I just didn't happen to have any Ray's or Bradbury's on my TBR, but I was able to work with the horse :)
And yes, very useful for the trivia challenge!
My read needs to be based on Jenn's book:
I think I'm going to go with this, which I own on an old tattered paperback
The link is the girl in a cloaked hood and the trees on the cover. I'm happy because there is snow and the title starts with a D
Janice wrote: "Saar, I think there's some confusion. When you signed up, you picked a book from the bookshelf. You picked The Travelling Cat Chronicles.

Oh, okay, I was confused! Thank you for telling me.

I hope you're okay after the storm snow. I had some options to read, but I still need to pick one.
I'm not doing a great job finding a book for this challenge!Cherie picked Ella Minnow Pea: A Novel in Letters
The cover is 80% yellow, but the yellow books I find are more orange or brown than yellow. I think I may go with We Five by the same author.

Do the books for the Monthly Challenge have to have been on our TBR already? If so I am very stuck.
No, you can read whatever as long as it fits the criteria posted by Janice. It's just that I own many books (those are on my tbr) and don't have access to a library, so I want to use books I own for challenges instead of having to buy something new :)

I am sorry you are having a hard time, Laura. I looked up other books with Ella in the title and came up with several. Minnow is showing several too. There are hundreds of great book titles using the author's first name and multiple with the same last name. Is it because they are not available or you just cannot find titles? I know that there are several titles with fish on the cover too. There is a lady with a hat on the cover of Ella. I know that almost all of the Maisie Dobbs series books have a picture of Maisie on the cover and she always has a hat on. I know that there are lots more.
Thanks Cherie! My biggest issue is my library's selection. I try to borrow books and only buy as a last resort. Although, I keep forgetting that audible lets you return the book if you don't like it!
Peggy wrote: "Oh no, not your fault! I think Cherie has to work with this book too and she had tons of options. I just didn't happen to have any Ray's or Bradbury's on my TBR, but I was able to work with the horse :)..."I was really, really surprised by how many books there were all with the same title as "Something Wicked This Way Comes". I even considered a few. Ray is a very common first name, as well as Bradbury. At the end, I settled on another book by the same author simply because my library had it available. I did look at the points, but that is never a #1 reason for me to choose a book because it is so hard to determine what will get the highest score. The only time I won a monthly challenge was totally by accident.
Cherie wrote: "...The only time I won a monthly challenge was totally by accident..."Yep. Same here. lol
Janice wrote: "Don't forget, Carrie. You can go with the cover. It's primarily yellow and you could find another book with a yellow colour.Hmmm. Would this work for cover color match?
Mr. Penumbra's:
An Artist of the Floating World:
Or, I did obtain Counting by 7s by Holly Sloan, so I could go with that one.
Carrie wrote: "Janice wrote: "Don't forget, Carrie. You can go with the cover. Give that a go and see what it says.
Ok, I tried Tineye, and it says Artist of the Floating World is mostly brown. 47% Brown
40% Yellow
7% Orange
6% Green
Oh well!
Just thought of this: Mr. Penumbra's has books on the cover, so perhaps I could read The Body in the Library:

Amanda I am almost finished and it has creeped me out.
Hi Janice. Will you be posting the reporting thread for the December challenge soon? I am almost finished with my book and am planning on moving to the group read book. Thanks for all you do.
Jayme wrote: "Hi Janice. Will you be posting the reporting thread for the December challenge soon? I am almost finished with my book and am planning on moving to the group read book. Thanks for all you do."Awesome, Jayme. Hope you got some good points. I added the book to my TBR.
I think she has been too busy answering card questions to think about the reporting thread yet. :0)
Jayme wrote: "Hi Janice. Will you be posting the reporting thread for the December challenge soon? I am almost finished with my book and am planning on moving to the group read book. Thanks for all you do."Thanks for reminding me. I'll do that right away.
Janice wrote: "Jayme wrote: "Hi Janice. Will you be posting the reporting thread for the December challenge soon? I am almost finished with my book and am planning on moving to the group read book. Thanks for all..."No worries. You have been a very busy girl!! :)

Looking forward to seeing what you pick!
Dawn - I think we may have to shoot for the glue stick. My book did not score well!Though one of my glue stick badges is my favorite ever!

I don't think mine will have so many points either.
Did you enjoy your book?

Margo, I finished The Sparrow
I LOVED it!! I'm so glad I finally got around to reading it! It's going on my favorites list and I'm buying a copy to have/re-read! (I listened to it - the audio narration was excellent!)

I haven't been able to get hold of audio, though I haven't looked f9r a while. That's what stops me reading it as I'm not good with print. so glad you loved ot Anne.
My copy of The Ice has arrived in the library, I just need to pick it up!
Anne ✨ wrote: "Margo, I finished The SparrowThe cover of the book has birds (sparrows) at the bottom, which matches birds on the cover of Bird Box."
Don't forget to report it in the reporting thread, Anne.
I just saw your score in the reporting thread Beth. Nice!!I'll probably start my book either at the end of this week or early next week.

I've finally chose a book:
Somebody I Used to Know: A Memoir
Going to get my copy on Friday.
Annerlee gave me The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency as my start, so I am going to try Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
Jenn wrote: "Annerlee gave me The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency as my start, so I am going to try Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency"How are you liking Dirk Gently? I thought it was okay, but not as good as some of Adams' other books. I actually liked the last two books in the trilogy better than the first one. I think he was trying too hard in the first one. IMO, anyway.
I'm actually just about to start Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. When I was starting to gopher for this one I was having trouble getting my hands on Dirk (library issues - somebody stole their copy), so I picked up The Sunday Philosophy Club (which I just finished last night), only to find that I actually own Dirk < face-palm > and, it will be good for more points ;)So, I've got a plan B if for any reason I can't finish Dirk lol
Annerlee, how are you making out with Doomsday Book, I've had it on my bookshelf for years and just never gotten around to it.
Janice, for genre, my book (The Rithmatist) has on the main page Science Fiction --> Steampunk.Would that count for the Science Fiction points, or are you looking for just Science Fiction?
Anna wrote: "Almeta wrote: "Anna wrote: "Great challenge! ...@ Almeta, I'm curious what will be your pick..."
**grin** I'm curious also!☺
naked man on the cover The Back Passage (Mitch Mitchell Mystery, #1) by James Lear 🌴The Back Passage 199 pages."
Here's a very dubious recommendation The Back Passage has to be one of the worst book I've read ;D
Thanks for the warning. What a good buddy!
I switched to Gabriel's Inferno
Peggy wrote: "Janice, for genre, my book (The Rithmatist) has on the main page Science Fiction --> Steampunk.Would that count for the Science Fiction points, or are you looking for just Science..."
It will count because "Science Fiction" precedes Steampunk.
Kay wrote: "I'm partnered with TrudyAn. Hi TrudyAn. TrudyAn picked The Maid by Kimberly Cutter. This is my first challenge and it's nice to be doing it with a partner. I was thinking The Maid by Yasutaka Tsutsui“Kay, so sorry you didn’t like the book you chose. Only one star! I hope it was a quick read, and that you’re now reading something more to your liking.

Yeah, when I picked that book it was because it is sitting unread in my audiobook library. I didn't realize it would be a pain for you to use when I committed to it (but it did help with the trivia challenge quiz!)
