Yeah, when I picked that book it was because it is sitting unread in my audiobook library. I didn't realize it would be a pain for you to use when I committed to it (but it did help with the trivia challenge quiz!)

Lucy Furr (lucyfurr) | 775 comments Hey Saar, sorry for going silent, got hit with a snow storm in the middle of my moving week, made everything crazy.

Since your book, The Travelling Cat Chronicles has a cat on the cover, I've decided to listen to the audiobook version of Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits as it also has a cat on the cover.

Also, sorry if I caused any confusion with my original post, I definitely misread how thing were supposed to go.

Did you figure out what you wanted to read?

Oh no, not your fault! I think Cherie has to work with this book too and she had tons of options. I just didn't happen to have any Ray's or Bradbury's on my TBR, but I was able to work with the horse :)

And yes, very useful for the trivia challenge!

Annerlee | 2870 comments My read needs to be based on Jenn's book:

The Girl in Red by Christina Henry
I think I'm going to go with this, which I own on an old tattered paperback
Doomsday Book by Connie Willis

The link is the girl in a cloaked hood and the trees on the cover. I'm happy because there is snow and the title starts with a D

I hope you're okay after the storm snow. I had some options to read, but I still need to pick one.

Laura (Lclwags) (lclwags) | 698 comments I'm not doing a great job finding a book for this challenge!
Cherie picked Ella Minnow Pea: A Novel in Letters

The cover is 80% yellow, but the yellow books I find are more orange or brown than yellow. I think I may go with We Five by the same author.

Do the books for the Monthly Challenge have to have been on our TBR already? If so I am very stuck.

message 109: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments No, you can read whatever as long as it fits the criteria posted by Janice. It's just that I own many books (those are on my tbr) and don't have access to a library, so I want to use books I own for challenges instead of having to buy something new :)

I am sorry you are having a hard time, Laura. I looked up other books with Ella in the title and came up with several. Minnow is showing several too. There are hundreds of great book titles using the author's first name and multiple with the same last name. Is it because they are not available or you just cannot find titles? I know that there are several titles with fish on the cover too. There is a lady with a hat on the cover of Ella. I know that almost all of the Maisie Dobbs series books have a picture of Maisie on the cover and she always has a hat on. I know that there are lots more.

message 113: by Laura (Lclwags) (new)

Laura (Lclwags) (lclwags) | 698 comments Thanks Cherie! My biggest issue is my library's selection. I try to borrow books and only buy as a last resort. Although, I keep forgetting that audible lets you return the book if you don't like it!

message 114: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Peggy wrote: "Oh no, not your fault! I think Cherie has to work with this book too and she had tons of options. I just didn't happen to have any Ray's or Bradbury's on my TBR, but I was able to work with the horse :)..."

I was really, really surprised by how many books there were all with the same title as "Something Wicked This Way Comes". I even considered a few. Ray is a very common first name, as well as Bradbury. At the end, I settled on another book by the same author simply because my library had it available. I did look at the points, but that is never a #1 reason for me to choose a book because it is so hard to determine what will get the highest score. The only time I won a monthly challenge was totally by accident.

Hmmm. Would this work for cover color match?
Mr. Penumbra's:
Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore (Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, #1) by Robin Sloan

An Artist of the Floating World:
An Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro

Or, I did obtain Counting by 7s by Holly Sloan, so I could go with that one.

An Artist of the Floating World looks more orange to me. Did you run it through https://labs.tineye.com/color/ ? Give that a go and see what it says.

message 118: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (cseydel) | 252 comments Ok, I tried Tineye, and it says Artist of the Floating World is mostly brown.

47% Brown
40% Yellow
7% Orange
6% Green

Oh well!

How are you liking Dirk Gently? I thought it was okay, but not as good as some of Adams' other books. I actually liked the last two books in the trilogy better than the first one. I think he was trying too hard in the first one. IMO, anyway.

message 144: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments I'm actually just about to start Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. When I was starting to gopher for this one I was having trouble getting my hands on Dirk (library issues - somebody stole their copy), so I picked up The Sunday Philosophy Club (which I just finished last night), only to find that I actually own Dirk < face-palm > and, it will be good for more points ;)
So, I've got a plan B if for any reason I can't finish Dirk lol

Annerlee, how are you making out with Doomsday Book, I've had it on my bookshelf for years and just never gotten around to it.
