And I am more intimidated than ever.. Aye, aye, aye..

I'm going to be getting behind for the next couple of weeks, but I will definitely catch up again when December starts.

YESSS!!! I agree!!! I think thats why I'm having a harder time when others are behind because I need the group chat and support to keep reading!

Sometimes, I find it exciting but laborious to check the cross references or the footnotes, so it does require a submersion, and 15 minutes are not enough to read a massive part that often offers a new perspective or talks about something that is initially hard to pinpoint.

I feel bad that I haven't started IJ yet, but I have not doubt that when I do, these threads will be most helpful and encouraging!

I know, DFW's sentence structures are CRAZY!!

Welcome to the IJ club, Dustin!! I'm ~620 pages in and I'm still loving it. :)

I'm loving it too. It's shaping up to be the best book I've read in years - it's not often that I'm so sure it's going to be a 5 star so early in.

I'm so glad you two are loving it.:) That's a very sweet offer, Nocola, and I'd love to be your companion reader, too, but really, I don't want to rush it. Instead, I want to savor every word. I'll certainly be checking out the threads, though, and we can discuss it that way.
I'm not sure that it's going to be a 5 star book for me, this early on, but it IS something very special and I'm looking forward to experiencing more of it.

Here are a few off the top of my head for example:
- Millenial Fizzy (soft drink)
- The Fiends in Human Shape (rock band)
- the Howling Fantods
- "Map" meaning "face"
- "de-map" meaning to kill or assault

That one's got my vote as well."
It's hilarious!

WOW, you think that HIGHLY of it, Amanda!? That's awesome!

Yep, I might be saying the same...

Me too!
If I didn't have so many books in my TBR list I might suggest following this up with a buddy read of one of DFW's other novels...Broom of the System sounds interesting...

Fortunately two are a couple so I'll only have to buy two books. Unfortunately they live in NZ and I live in the UK so when I head there in January I'm going to have to find room for 3! of these in my already present full suitcase.
I'll also be taking House of Leaves if that side read gets off the ground in the new year. Man, my weight allowance is going to be tight...

Wow - good luck with packing!!
re: House of Leaves - I've still got my copy waiting to read. It seems my TBR pile for early 2015 is growing immensely tall already.

I have nothing but AMAZING things to say about HoL! Enjoy.

I'm currently on page 152 and quite mesmerized by Marathe and Steeply (the way DFW describes Tuscon is mind-boggling, like the sunset resembling an explosion, etc..) Last night I survived Footnote #45, which takes the reader to #305. That was the most challenging so far, IMO.
Anyway, I guess I just wanted to update you all and thank you for the constant support and encouragement!

Yes, don't quit!! You've got a ton of great scenes ahead of you. :)
Sometimes, we forget that we are reading one of the most challenging novels of the twentieth century and believe that this one should flow easily. No, it should not. It is labyrinthine, mammoth book with hundreds of cross-references, literary allusions, weird word, strange mishaps, so it is only natural that we all need support.
Please post away.
