A class is going on a field trip. They're an all girl school. One girl notices that the helper seems a bit suspicious - and then the entire class is kidnapped and put in the bowels of a ship to be sold as slaves. I remember that they caught rats and gave them to the cook in exchange for some of them to eat. The other girls don't like this girl at first, but she sort of has some experience with this kind of thing (not that she's been kidnapped before, but she's not a whiney, wimpy, fragile girl) and they slowly grow to respect her and follow her. And once they have an escape plot, but someone rats them out so she can go back home (which doesn't happen, she was lied to) and the girl gets whipped. I never got to finish this book so I don't know what happens in the end.
