Delia (dc1984) Do you think The Joy Luck Club would count for this prompt? It goes back and forth between China and the US? If not, I'll probably use 100 Years of Solitude, which I've been meaning to read since for-freaking-ever!

Jekyblue | 2 comments Just found that Amazon is promoting "World Book Day" and is providing nine books from around the world available for free download. Looks like the promotion ends around April 24. One book is set in China (Life) and one in Cuba (The Price of Paradise). I downloaded both for this prompt.

Ooh, I really wanted to read Behold the Dreamers, but when I read the synopsis, it sounded like it was set in New York, even though the characters were from Cameroon. Do significant parts of the book take place in Cameroon?

My memory is that most of the book takes place in NY with a brief section in Cameroon. But my memory is definitely not perfect!

Lilith (lilithp) | 1073 comments Taaqtumi: An Anthology of Arctic Horror Stories100 stars if I could give it. My favourite book of the year so far. Not so much horror to me, as atmospheric. Profound allegories, sharing of our First Nations cultural teachings, and what goes wrong when humans forget what our ancestors taught us.

There is a glossary in the back of Inuktitut words used, which led me to a site for learning Inuit language. Interesting that the words are similar , sometimes to my mother tongue. Maybe our nation's language is linguistically related.

Set in arctic Canada, this just may be the most beautiful book I've read in the last 5 years or so.
