Michael The time jump.
I, personally want them to pick up right after the second film, because I love the current designs and don't want them to change. I'd like to see hiccup and astrid get married, but not have children. Because I really don't want to see them FULLY grown up, I think that would be better left to the imagination for the events after the final film, and I don't think seeing them in that kind of a role would be fun for anyone. I also don't want them to separate hiccup and toothless by having all the dragons disappear like the director said he was playing with. What do you think about the third film?

Claire I think it would be interesting if they found a way in the third film to connect book series to the movies.

I have not read that far in the book series (I've only read the first one, but I plan to read the rest), but what I hear from folks who HAVE read all of the current books, and judging by the cover art of book nine which shows Hiccup riding a large black dragon with green eyes, the books connect to the films in some way.

A popular and plausible theory in the book fandom is that the HTTYD films take place in the distant past, when dragons and humans were still enemies, with movie!Hiccup being book!Hiccup's distant ancestor and the one to start the dragon/human partnership. The books, according to this theory, take place in the distant future when the dragon/human partnership has degraded into a form of animal cruelty, and book!Hiccup is trying to bring love and trust back into the bond between humans and dragons.

It's a theory, but I still think it's a pretty awesome idea.

Michael I really wish it was set in the future instead of the past. But the author, and the director of the films said, the books and films will end with the explanation of why there are no more dragons in the world. I think, this is a horrible idea because the series will have been for nothing. Building a dragon civilization on berk and all. And they would have to separate hiccup and toothless. The third movie will probably be boycotted if they chose to go this way.
