This is How it Always Is by Laurie Frankel

This is my 2nd time reading since I read it more than a year ago and we are reading this selection for book club now. My second time I listened to the audiobook.

I like the story since it is one of not fitting in in a world that is often black or white, either/or. Who of us has never felt uncomfortable in our own skin?

I loved the quirkiness of Mr. Tongo and his ironic style. I liked the parallels drawn between the family and the fairy tale Penn tells. I also longed for the understanding and supportive parents Rosie and Penn were when their child struggled so with identity and the secret the family was keeping.

I thought the book was thought-provoking, sweet yet heartbreaking at times. It was a great read for me!
