SOLVED. YA kind of medieval/fantasy setting, with antler people? [s]

It was in my middle school library (2006-2009) it had a green and yellow cover, and it was near Meg Cabot's books, so I know the author's name starts with a C or a B.

The story was about this boy who lived in a farmhouse, and he discovered he might be related to the antler people of the forest (or mountains? I can't remember).

SPOILERS BELOW.

Um there's spoiler I think I remember, I think he becomes one of the antlered people in the end as a claiming his heritage kind of thing, but I can't remember much beyond that it was a really good read. Might have been apples involved too but I'm not sure.

Any help would be appreciated.
