SOLVED. Colorful cartoonish book about an alien zoo

there was this book I read as in about 2001 up until probably 2004 which i cant remember the name of. The book was a search and find book where you would find a bunch of cartoony aliens on different planets which would then be put in an alien zoo, which we saw at the end of the book. Unfortunately I can't remember the author or the title, I have a feeling that it was published sometime in the late 90s or maybe very early 2000s. As I remember it the front cover had a black background with stars on it and a large planet or spaceship in the foreground. The whole book was colourful and had a cartoonish artstyle. realllly wanna find this book, does it ring a bell to anyone?? thanks

it was aimed at children, i was about 7 when i read it first

Dusting off my old good reads account to say i also remember this exact book and have never found it. The same illustrator also made a medieval themed one, i think.

oh, another thing i'll add is that there was one alien on each page that was a shape shifter and you could figure out which one it was because it would have one tiny detail different to the alien it was imitating.
