SOLVED. Book title. [s]

Please help! I read a book in the late 80s, early 90s about a girl that went back in time. She was a teenager walking through her neighborhood & turned down an alley & was suddenly whisked back in time. I don't remember what time or city. Everybody dressed differently & spoke with a different dialect. One phrase I remember was "I dinnae ken" which means "I don't know". I don't remember any names! Please help!

Lobstergirl, I'm not sure how to edit the topic. I read it 30 years ago so I'm not even sure the genre, maybe historical science fiction, if there is such a thing. Thanks for your input, I'll use it next time I'm looking for something
