Louise Esplan I never read the fantasy genre, have no idea who Patrick Rothfuss is and therefore my ignorance extends to knowing nothing of his previous books. Having said that, I absolutely loved this book! Yes there were some gaps for me, (nowhere in this story do you find out that the underthing is under a university except for the back cover, and I had no idea who the "he" was that Auri was waiting for) There was just one short line in the story that eluded to a clue of how Auri became "broken" and I didn't get any sense that the world was broken that she lived in (even though the synopsis said it was). But to be honest, it just didn't matter, I was drawn to this book and had picked it up and put it back on the bookshop bookshelf many times before buying it but in the end it was an intuitive purchase, and the title intrigued me enough to find out more about "the slow regard of silent things" and on that point, it delivered. I thought it was brilliant, beautifully written, poetic, wonderful imagery with lines I will be going back to re read, and read again. If not for this story, I would not contemplate reading the two books preceding this, and which this character apparently features, but now I will. I don't even read book reviews let alone write them, but I just had to hear what others thought of it as I had no one to talk to about it and really wanted to. Suffice to say I was surprised to see some of the comments in the thread, so much "anger" and "frustration" but there is probably not any one thing, that will ever be for everybody.

idcboobs congrats, now you can wait another 5-6 years for the third book with the rest of us

Gandalfgrijs Well, I recommend the name of the wind and the wise man fear. In regard of your questions you probably haven't read them. This is a side story of the bigger story which is told in them (okay, I have a feeling that that was realy Dunglish sentence. I hope you understood it, sorry for my English).
If you enjoyed this novel, you'll love them (or so I hope). :)
