Buddy Read - Memory In Death (Nov. 2014) Spoiler Zone
I know a few are still finishing up Origin...we'll move forward with Memory when everyone is ready. I'll be listening to it at the end of the week, I think.
Are you ready to begin Memory?
I'll start the audio over the weekend & hope to listen as I begin prep for all my Thanksgiving guests. Thank goodness for audios as I clean, cook, & get ready for Turkey Day!

I hope everyone who celebrates had a Happy Thanksgiving. I'm a little behind but I'll be back on track tomorrow.
You're fine, Sharon. I'm really behind in starting this one myself. I thought it would be last week but got tied up finishing some others & then Thanksgiving stopped my reading for the week as I entertained guests.
Who else is reading Memory for our BR?

I have one of those friends also, Lorridae! Love her to death but she shouldn't condemn what she hasn't tried or read. I really hate when all romance is thrown into one big ugly pot & labeled "trash"...it is so much more.
If they only knew the reading pleasure they're sacrificing:) Doesn't bother me a lick anymore that I have friends and acquaintances feeling this way.
Exactly Jonetta! I don't care either. I know how much pleasure I get from some of these series. Their loss! lol

I forgot how much I like this book. I know a lot of people prefer the early books in this series but I love watching Eve & Roarke's relationship grow. They depend on each other now.
Eve's relationship with the support characters is so much stronger too. I love Summerset's conversation with Roarke by the fire especially this part.
“You gave me my life. You did,” he insisted when Summerset made a protesting sound. “And I worked— in my fashion— to build this place. I asked you to tend it for me. You’ve never let me down. But I needed her. The one thing, the only thing that could make this place home.”
“She’s not what I’d have chosen for you.”
“Oh.” With a half-laugh, Roarke bit into the cookie. “That I know.”
“But she’s right for you. The one for you.” His smile was slow. “Despite, or maybe due to, her many flaws.”
I think this is the first time he really admits to Roarke that Eve is his perfect partner.
Ahhh...thanks for sharing that one, Sharon. This series is loaded with quotes that are so heart touching and also with the snarky, funny quotes. Love that Summerset finally said it outloud.

What a truly miserable woman. I can't say I was really upset when she turned up dead.
I LOVED the office scene with Roarke. Couldn't you just see Roarke in his coolness, bringing out scary Roarke.

I love that scene too. I almost wish she had lived a little longer so she could experience another run in with Roarke. Roarke isn't one of her frighten charges who gives in to her demands easily.
This was one of those cases where I was really stuck for quite some time trying to unravel whodunit.
Were you at all sympathetic to Bobby? Should he have known what was happening to Eve when she lived with them?

I was also touched by Eve's memory of the teens living across the street. The simplest act made such a difference for her.

I think Bobby was just a kid himself. He knew his mother wasn't treating the girls right that is why he gave her the sandwich. I think he was intimidated by his mom even though she wasn't mean to him.
I didn't expect the crazy wife as the killer until late in the book. I like how this whole mystery unfolds.

This is another scene where I wanted more. I wanted Roarke to track him down and let Eve know that he was ok and made a good life for himself.
I love how Eve described the air board ride as the best day of her life. It brings home how tough her life was to this point.

When Roarke came home and found her in the shower my first thought is she is trying to wash the memories away. Roarke just steps in the shower and gets her. Love him
I'd never given much thought to what happened to her after she escaped her father and before she joined the academy. This story told so much more about Eve.
Sharon wrote: "I love that Peabody isn't afraid to call Roarke and how he drops everything to come home to Eve.

That's a good point...washing away the memories. Hadn't thought of that.
That was pretty brave of Peabody to make that call, knowing Eve might have ripped into her.

I do too...Eve brushes Peabody off but Peabody knows who to call to be there for Eve. Loved Peabody for that.

Peabody being so nervous at interviewing Roarke after Trudy is killed...Roarke asking her afterwards "How'd we do?" You can feel Peabody's relief when it's over. love it.
Roarke's anger at Eve when she declares Trudy is her problem - he should stay out of it - she would NOT have told him...oh my! Roarke's sweaty workout working off his irritation & frustration - oh yes! ;)
Eve's apology to Roarke when she realizes what she's done...heartfelt.
Eve crying on Dennis Mira's shoulder - surprising & very touching. Loved it.

@ Jonetta. I too hadn't thought about what happened after. I sorted of thought that yes she had gone into the system but that for the most part it was better than what was. I also loved that Peabody called in the big guns.
Love, loved how she ran out of his office.
@ Sharon. Love , love ,Loved that scene of Roarke getting her out if the shower. Everything just built up to it. And Roarke delivers.
@Sandra. And then! Did not see Eve's jealousy. But I must say I would have felt the same in some way. They had just spent thanksgiving with all of Roarke's family, so it is fresh in her mind. Who wouldn't have issues about where they came from? But then after ? The make up is just has good ;-)
I also wanted to mention the courtroom scene. We hardly ever get to scene after the case close. And this is really close for all of them.
The theme of closure is strong and starts early !!

I think Dennis Mira is the way she pictures the father that she always wanted. I love almost every scene with Dennis Mira.

I think some of Roarke's anger is also his realization that he was given a gift that Eve will never have. He was upset with her that she was pushing him away and striking out but he understood it.

I thought that, too, Sharon. He's her idealized version of a father in the flesh.

I agree. She looks around at everything - a tree with "at least 100 presents", the family atmosphere & there's Dennis...the perfect father.
Michelle - I think it probably hurt Roarke also - Eve's remark about him not knowing because he had family...he found his family. It seemed harsh coming from Eve but there it was - her jealousy over him also having what she never had. Her saying: No one ever loved me - cared about me. And a really good thing that she got it out rather than continue to let it fester. And, of course, how badly she felt after she realized what she had said to him - her apology. Make up sex wasn't bad either! ;)

As for Bobby, I wanted to me really mad at him, but then had to realize he was also a child. I think I could have hated him if it hadn't been for that sandwich memory.

Thanx for saying that. I had overlooked Roarke's take on this. I thought that that point had come up before but I think Eve verbalising it really hit. And hard. I glad that they both talked about it. It just proves that you truly can hurt the one you love the most. This really is a subject that has many sides. For both of them.
Can anyone say they didn't love Eve taking charge of the ballroom !? I almost wish I could see it for myself.
Yes, Michelle, I loved when Eve finally stood up & took charge of the ballroom preparations! It was fun to see her thought process as she realized she just needed to approach it the same as she would the bunch at the office. And as Roarke said, I think a few of them left scared to death but the job got done! lol
Eve Dallas is one tough cop. It should take more than a seemingly ordinary middle-aged lady to make her fall apart. But when that lady is Trudy Lombard, all bets are off. Just seeing Trudy at the station plunges Eve back to the days when she was a vulnerable, traumatized young girl—and trapped in foster care with the twisted woman who now sits smiling in front of her.
Trudy claims she came all the way to New York just to see how Eve is doing. But Eve’s fiercely protective husband, Roarke, suspects otherwise—and a blackmail attempt by Trudy proves his suspicion correct. Eve and Roarke just want the woman out of their lives. But someone else wants her dead. And when her murder comes to pass, Eve and Roarke will follow a circuitous and dangerous path to find out who turned the victimizer into a victim.
