I am looking for the name of a series of picture books where the characters were all eggs. The copies I had were published in the early to mid-90's, so I imagine they were originally published around 1985-1995. They were large hardbacks with each book being a different color. I believe each book was about a different egg character. There were likely puns.

Did the story have anything to do with Easter, or were they just regular eggs?

I do not remember any of the stories, but they weren't holiday-themed.
Did you read these books in the USA?Do you remember where the eggs lived, on a farm or in a grocery or in a town of some type? Did they wear clothes?
These were bought in the USA, and the books took place in the town where the eggs lived. They could've been naked or clothed, but they definitely had hair and other features that made the characters distinct from one another, similar to the Mr. Men/Little Miss characters. The pages in the books I had were matte, not glossy. The coloring of the art reminded me of Sesame Street picture books of the same era.

Yes, it seems to have already gone into extinction! I've been postponing bumping the thread because I keep hoping I might think of some more details, but nothing is coming to me except a vague sense that there may have been a "sunny side up" pun involved in one or more of the titles (or some of the characters' names) and that I had several in the series, with very stark spine colors that remind me of Dick Bruna's Miffy books, but brighter reds.

I've checked online extensively and have posted all that I remember.I thought this would be quite a unique one, but it has been very tough to search for, because I have to wade through so many thousands of books about Easter, food, or animals. I always come to this group as a last resort in the hopes that someone else will remember it when my searching consistently fails.
I pretty much scoured Worldcat looking for egg books, too.Came up with zero, zilch, nada. If it's there, I don't think "egg" is one of the keywords.

No, I had those as a child and it was distinctly a different series. The one I'm looking for was newer and almost certainly originated in US or Canada.

It's definitely worth the bump, assuming you still want to find the book! The moderators only ask if you're still looking every couple of years or so. "Bumping" will bring your thread back up to the top of the list, where fresh eyes can see it.
Definitely worth bumping! I usually bump my threads once a month, and I've gotten many of them solved.

Can you describe the illustrations - e.g., simple or detailed, realistic or cartoon-like, painted watercolors or bold graphics? Do they remind you of a similar illustrator or picture book author?

This is just wonderful. I couldn't figure out why I thought there were egg-related puns involved, but now that I can read it instantly on Open Library, I see it's because their names are things like Egg Nog and Egg Salad. Thank goodness for Internet Archive.
