SOLVED. historical (western), widowed bride takes job as cook at ranch [s]

I think the heroine was a mail order bride, the man she had married was old, and died, not leaving her much.She does not have enough money to buy a train ticket anywhere, but she gets a job as a cook at a ranch, without the owner being there.
This is as much as i can remember, i had only read the first chapter. Can anyone hep me out?
