This is a book that I had to read in my English class back in middle school(we're talking somewhere around 2005, 2006). I don't remember all the details, but I'll tell you what I can. The plot revolves around a boy who is outside celebrating something(I think it was the 4th of July) and somehow he ends up with his father's gun( I don't remember if it was a handgun or a shotgun) and takes it out back into the woods to fire a celebratory shot into the air. Unbeknownst to him, a few miles across town, a girl and her father are also outside and the girls dad is up on their roof doing some work when the bullet that was fired from the gun by the boy comes down striking the father and killing him.
