Cynthia (cynthiab) I like The Gunslinger because it's such a contrast to the majority of his work. It's spare.

I can't imagine him writing it now. I just finished Revival, which I would have preferred as a novella. The entire book was just a set up for the last 2 chapters. I was too bored by then to care what happened.

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Eight times I have picked up this book in the last week or so, eight times I have read the first page and then put it down and read something else. I liked this book 20-odd years ago, I'm not sure why I just can't seem to get into it now. I'll get back here someday. :)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I finished the book last friday, but haven't had time to update my thoughts on this book.

I managed to write a few words down while reading.

My thoughts on Roland: (view spoiler)

Odette/Detta (view spoiler)

I'm very excited to see what the next book has in store. Although I'll have to wait a while until I have time to read it.

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments I finished the book today. I really enjoyed it! I'm going to pop back in here to share my thoughts on the book. :)

Vicki | 195 comments Enjoying The Drawing of the Three. The heroin mule and Roland being part of him is very strange. Can't wait to listen on my way to work tomorrow to see what happens during the trip through customs.

Cynthia (cynthiab) I'm just a little ahead of you, Vicki. I wish I were listening as well.

@Allison - The first part is a bit boring. It didn't draw me in, although it was unusual. The book picks up very quickly, though.

I realize that my taste has changed over the years, though. I initially devoured these books, but I'm having no trouble reading a little bit every day now. Despite the fact that I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen next.

Cynthia (cynthiab) Up through Odetta/Detta (view spoiler)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I never really understood why the man behind the third door (view spoiler)

Vicki | 195 comments Oh no, a third door I'll have to read to catch up today I only knew about one door between Roland and Eddie.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Anita, I think it was just because he was a cuckoo! LOL I don't remember specific reasons. X)

Cynthia (cynthiab) Anita, do you mean (view spoiler)

I enjoyed the book but just can't relate to any of them. I wonder who really would.

LOL, I loved that part. I actually laughed at that.

Vicki | 195 comments Finished The Drawing of the Three and look forward to book 3. Is there is going to be a continuing buddy read for book 3?

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments I hope so!!!

I can relate to Eddie's relationship with his brother. I was never a drug addict but my older brother certainly was. He is 8 years older and when I was a kid I would have moved heaven and earth to do whatever he needed/wanted/suggested I should do to make his life easier. Eventually I wised up and fortunately, he did too and has been sober for 7 years. I'll still do what I can for him but his demands are a lot more reasonable.
