Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I really liked the bit at the end about Gaia the earth mother. I can't say more because I can't do spoiler tags on my phone lol

Paper Magician was a slog for me, especially in the middle. Don't feel bad! Glass Magician was faster, or it felt like it because it's practically a novella.

The Ruth Galloway books are so well paced, and so well written that I don't mind when the killer is easily pegged. Although I am torn because I like Nelson and Ruth, but not a big fan of the infidelity.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Cynthia I agree completely about Nelson and Ruth!

message 54: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) Is anyone reading The House at Sea's End (Ruth Galloway, #3) by Elly Griffiths yet? I started today, but I'll hold off a bit if I'm the only one.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3792 comments I'm still waiting on the library.

I started and I am at chapter 3

message 57: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) I'm on Chapter 6, not very far on the murder investigation so I don't have an 'I think it's XYZ post' yet.

I'm home today called in sick....hope to get to it...trying to make a dent in Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon

I find Elly Griffiths books are a fast read for me....I am really enjoying the series aside from the infidelity, will be interested to see in upcoming books how that plays out

message 59: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) They are, they're quick reads and very satisfying (to me at least). I like Ruth so much, and I envy her little house on the Saltmarsh, if not the cold weather. (I'm always saying that I wouldn't mind cold weather if I had the proper clothes for it, but I suspect that isn't true).

My goal for today is to make a significant dent in The Bronze Horseman (The Bronze Horseman, #1) by Paullina Simons , which doesn't read quick as quickly for me as the Outlander series books.

I still have to start The Bronze Horseman but think I will wait until I finish my time with Jamie....

As far as cold weather I have lived on the west coast and it can be brutal at times but I did love it....

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Oh, we're starting book three already? Guess I need to get it from my library then!!! X)

message 62: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) We don't have to start it now, but I have a little gap to fill and I'm in the mood for Ruth.

message 63: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Feel free to go ahead :) I need to figure out how to work it into my plan, but wouldn't want to hold anyone back! As long as we come back here and discuss it soon, you can still get points for buddy reading it for tower teams -- so I say go ahead if you have the hankering!

Michelle (govmarley) | 3150 comments Hi everyone! Just now starting this series.
The Crossing Places (Ruth Galloway, #1) by Elly Griffiths . Should I discuss the first book here or go to the BOM thread?

message 65: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) You're probably more likely to get someone to talk about it with you here.

I like it so far, but the present tense takes some getting used to.
Transferring my thoughts from the BOM thread. I'll spoiler everything!

message 71: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) Do keep on. I love the series. Ruth is a real woman, not some beautiful superwoman that can take down the biggest toughest man without losing her high heels or messing up her fabulous hair. I love reading about her. Usually it's just the cozies that have real women, and I don't care for cozies.

Another series with a real woman is Stuart MacBride's Logan McRae books. The first one is Cold Granite (Logan McRae, #1) by Stuart MacBride . They're set in Scotland, and the main character is of course Logan, but one of his superiors is a woman I've grown to love. I'm on the 8th book now.

I've set The House at Sea's End (Ruth Galloway, #3) by Elly Griffiths aside for a bit until more of us are reading it. Plus, I like reading the mysteries without interruption, and I've got so many BRs right now.

Now! Now! I've been waiting for someone else to read it with, too. I just finished one of my other BRs and I've got a slot for it so Perfect Timing.

If you don't know about the list of books, then I don't want to ruin it for you. I can't remember what chapter it comes up in.

Cynthia (cynthiab) Aren't you a bad boy, reading spoilers! So far this isn't my favorite Ruth book. Good, but I'm not pulled into it the way I was with the first two. You know how it is with series. All the books can't be great.
