I liked this one even better than Crossing Places. I'm waiting for y'all to finish #2 so i can finally read the 3rd one!

Ok I couldn't resist. It's a couch type of day so I started it this morning. I'll wait for others to start to comment.

Just wanted to post my thoughts so far, before I learn more.

Up through the end of Chapter 8

What an interesting mystery. (view spoiler)[ I wonder if this is the real mystery of the book, or if it will reveal / relate to another one (like in The Crossing Places). I can't believe Ruth hasn't told Nelson about her being pregnant!! When is she going to tell him? It doesn't really seem fair and I'm not a fan of the whole situation.

What does anyone think about the passage in-between passages? It could be someone from the past who burred the child in the church yard, or a present day person. I have no idea, but I'm excited to read more! (hide spoiler)]

I've started. I'm not far in enough to comment yet, but I'm enjoying being back in Ruth's world already, and am enjoying seeing Nelson too.

I don't know if I loved this one as much as the first one, but they're both excellent.

My feelings about the pregnancy were mixed. I can understand her being hesitant to tell him about it, but STILL!!! Come on! Happy for Ruth, but Nelson's married and seems very involved in his marriage. At the least, he's a devoted Dad.

I'm 20% and Nelson just visited Father Hennessy. I'm enjoying the character development, but I would like a little more action! But I know it's coming soon! :)

I'm at 45% (up through ch 16).

Now things are getting strange! (view spoiler)[ I wonder who is trying to scare Ruth to death, or even if that's what really why her name was written at the site. I have a suspicion of Max, but I'm hoping it's not true.

As for the bones, I think the skeleton they found was definitely the little girl that disappeared from the school. I'm hoping for some more clues to come to light soon! (hide spoiler)]

As for Ruth's pregnancy (view spoiler)[ I'm annoyed with her for telling all these other people, but not Nelson! The baby is his also and it's not fair that she's keeping it from him. I hope she tells him before it's too late. (hide spoiler)]

Finally got my copy from the library I am really enjoying this book I'm on chapter 11 and I'm finding this a better read than the first one for me the first book I listen to an audiobook and I took it really slow and enjoyed the narrator in the visual imagery that was presented. I'm really liking and I'm hoping to continue with the rest of the series

@Rebecca & Cynthia I agree with you (view spoiler)[ one thing that annoyed me was that Ruth was telling others before she told Nelson but I could understand that she was seeing this child as her own with minimal involvement from Nelson. We now see a side of Nelson as devoted family man. how will this play out with his involvement with Ruth's child? Will Michelle find out and will she be accepting of the situation? (hide spoiler)]

Funny bit was when Ruth (view spoiler)[ went for her first ultrasound and she saw in the records that she was considered elderly. She's not yet forty and is considered elderly, I guess in terms of child bearing that's elderly (hide spoiler)]

I finished and will be continuing on with the series. Already reserved the next one at the library.

I'm still waiting for this one to come in but I have the third book.

I would be interested. I just picked up #3 from the library this afternoon but probably wont start till mid week.

I would love to read the next books as a series read. I finished the first 2 before the challenge and I've been waiting to start #3.

I could start the third book tonight or tomorrow and go back to the second one whenever it comes in.

Finished this book last night! Again I really enjoyed this book and was (view spoiler)[ a little surprised that Roderick was the crazy killer! I definitely started to think it was Max because everytime Ruth was meeting him or left him something bad would happen. Of course thinking Roderick had Alzheimer's the whole time really look him off the suspect list.

Also I still wonder what's going to happen with Ruth and Nelson.
I have a feeling he's going to have to tell his wife that the baby is his at some point. (hide spoiler)]

I've read this whole series and loved except for book 6 The Outcast Dead. Anyone want to read that one with me?

Sheila, I'm on the 3rd book now and my library has through book 6 so I can read it with you if you'll wait. By the time I get there, I'm sure some non-team members will be read for it also.

Okay, so my reading slump is *hopefully* over for now, as I've been in the mood all day. I'm up to 63% now.

The pregnancy storyline is strange. I don't know what to root for, as I don't really like stuff about people cheating/leaving spouses/etc.

I'm at a loss this time on the mystery. In book one, I pegged the killer from the first introduction. This time, I can't get a lock on anything!

And it's a fast read just like the first one... meaning, I like it! :D

76% and starting to form some ideas. But nothing concrete. I like when a book stumps me. We'll see :)

I'm also loving the development of Nelson and am hoping we get to see more and more of Cathbad!!!

I'm up to page 96, Chapter 12.

I like the mystery in this one. I love cold-case type mysteries when the police have to deal with missing evidence, characters who are older and memories are fuzzy, etc.
I don't feel as much of a connection to Ruth in this book as I did in the first. I'm hoping that will change soon. (hide spoiler)]

There's so much going on at once, it's hard to keep up with all the buddy reads!!!

I am still only 15% into Paper Magician :P

Of course, I've been completely unmotivated to read for almost two weeks, other than today and one day last week.

Just finished. Wow, just like the first one, it was a fast read and hard to put down. I *LOVE* that she didn't give away the killer too early/easily this time!

Great twists. Can't wait for book 3!

I've loved them all Steven and they are all a little different from the previous one.
