Hope so. I'm going back to work for a few months, but given I thought I'd have more time to read on retirement but that's not come to pass, it shouldn't make any difference I don't think.

Part of my old job. Just the cataloguing and not the collection management with all the problems etc. My successor has given two weeks notice right at the time when all the new courses and resources are needing to be sourced and catalogued ready for next academic year start up. My first reaction was no, go away, but when I learned it was just the cataloguing I relented. That's the easier (not easy) part of the job and with least headaches, plus I can do most of it from home.

I hope it will be enjoyable for you. Two weeks isn't much notice from a professional position.

No. They're pretty annoyed at so little notice, but I got from what wasn't said they're not that sorry to see her go and so didn't push a point and risk it becoming unpleasant for the other staff. Refrained from saying anything like, well I'm not surprised or I told you so! While she spent my last month with me to learn the ropes she kept telling me how clever she was, and how she was more than capable of teaching herself! With an attitude like that ....
I’ve got a copy of the ebook on Scribd! Exciting, I’ve not read this author before - I look forward to it! Good luck, Lesley, I hope all goes well with your return to work!

Thanks Susan. Hope my brain hasn't got too far behind with the rest it has had! :)
I think you'll enjoy this Kaye read.
You’ll be great, they’re lucky to get you! I’m looking forward to finally reading Kaye, this sounds fun.
Okay--one of my libraries has this on the shelf, so I may actually be able to get my hands on it.I haven't read this in eons--I owned a copy at one time
I see it was originally published in 1956. I wish I could remember if our heroine wears a nylon nightie!
I'd love to join in on this! Cyprus is high on my bucket list and while I have not read this author before I did recently acquire a copy of her "Shadow of the Moon" which I'm looking forward to.

I, have the book, and it is so hard for me not to check immediately! Must wait for start date!
I see that The Far Pavilions by M.M. Kaye is on this new list of recommended books from the BBC, and I'm embarrassed to say that I have never read anything written by her. So yes, I would like to participate in this group read. I'll order it today!(There are some other good retro reads on the list, too.)

Cool - the more the merrier.
Some interesting choices on that list - a couple maybe deliberately provocative I think!

Carol, I will join the buddy read. This is my 1st time hearing of this author. I read that she's compared to Mary Stewart so I'm definitely in!! For this reason, I just bought all 6 books in the 'Death In..." series from ebay and thriftbooks. So excited!!!

Haha, Barb! I can't remember, but I'm betting she does!
Aaaannnddd...I just got Death in Berlin I was scrabbling through my bag trying to find some coins, so the volunteer at the op shop gave it to me! 😂 Maybe I looked like an indigent old lady.😂
I'm thinking Feb for that one if there is enough interest.

Never underestimate the bond between book-lovers! We don't ever want to stand between a reader and a good book! Checking out if my library has that one.
This should be fun! I've been watching the final season of The Darrels of Corfu on PBS so I'm all primed to set sail southeastward to Cyprus.

I just finished it, and it was wonderful.
I haven’t participated in a buddy read for a while because I have so much trouble getting the books on time, or remembering to order them on time! But I’m picking up Death in Cyprus at my library today and I’m keen to start!

Yay! We are planning to start on the 20th. I usually set up the threads for the 19th my time (18th for most of you!) so just 3 or 4 days away!

No they are all cimpletely unrelated books. Some of them were retitled Death in... by publishers as a marketing ploy. Death in Zanzibar has a very slight link with one of Kaye's chunksters though.

Our newer members may not know this, but this used to be the group for author M.M. Kaye
I have had all sort of trouble getting hold of her Death in... books but have just managed to get hold of
