Why didn't Kya and Tate write to each other?

Thanks for your reply Sandy, but this doesn't explain why they didn't start writing to each other as soon as he left. They had every intention of seeing each other again and this would have been the perfect way to stay in touch.

The fact, that Tate broke his promise and doesn´t come back broke her hearth. He wasn´t brave anough to tell her at all. Neither through a lettter or message. I probably think this is the reason.
The sad thing is, that he chose his work over his love...thats why he didn´t come back or didn´t wrote a letter.

She also created this Amanda Hamilton figure and who knows if that was the way, through poetry, to talk to Tate. He was the one to teach her poetry so it made sense.
Her sending and receiving mail would require a lot of movements to town and she would have to mix with the population she didn't get or judged her. It was already hard for her to get gas from Jumpin when she went there to sell the mussels for her day to day trips along the swamp let's not add an occasional trip to the post office for the letters. now let´s suppose she never went there and the mail was dropped at her house: this would give someone in the town exact location of where she lived, including shortcuts and easy way access which was not ideal for someone who was "hiding" from everyone includinh authorities that tried to get to her multiple times
this is only my pov of the question and I hope I made myself clear with this explanation :)

I totally agree, as I was reading this when he said he was leaving for college I was like, Okay? and? She now knows how to write well enough to do multiple complete scientific books so why weren't they corresponding the day he left. Definitely a giant plot hole in my opinion

I see these points, and they're valid. However, I feel like with a little more effort from tate they easily could have figured it out. he could have bought her a bunch of stamps before he left so she didn't need to go to a post office in order to send mail. She could have dropped the letters off at Jumpins' place to be picked up by the mail-person. I also see that without the heart break of him not coming back on the fourth the story wouldn't have gone where it did. So i see the need for the lack of correspondence for the plot but I still want to smack Tate for it. LOL

I wondered the same thing, honestly. I think maybe because Kaya was very far out into the Swamplands, maybe postal services didn't deliver to her, but I agree.

This is one of those moments where I call it like I see it and my fiance will say, "It's a movie, stop asking questions...it's supposed to be this way." LOL makes me so mad. Like watching a person about to be murdered run upstairs to hide under the bed instead of outside.

Was there something I missed or is this a glaring plot hole? I'm thinking it's the latter but would like to know what others think.
