Why Read: I've been wanting to read this graphic anthology which was edited, written, illustrated and published by Native Americans, but it was too expensive and wasn't available from libraries when it was published. Recently, I tried again and discovered I could get it through inter-library loan.

Comments: I did really like one of the poems and there was a story called "Dog Woman" about a woman who gave dogs to women who she felt needed them. But I would have to rate the anthology as a whole a C+.

5)The Curio Dealer's Wife: An Akitada Story by I. J. Parker (historical mystery short story)
Source: purchased on Amazon Started: 10/31 Finished: 10/31

Why Read: I've read an Akitada novel and liked it. So I thought a short story by this author would be well-written.
It takes place in 11th century Japan which interests me.

Comments: So a woman tells Akitada that the man claiming to be her husband is an imposter. Was she insane or was she telling the truth? If he wasn't her husband who was he, and what happened to her husband? This is indeed a well-written mystery. I gave it a B.

6)Broken Places & Outer Spaces: Finding Creativity in the Unexpected by Nnedi Okorafor (memoir) 91 pages. Source: Library Started: 10/31 Finished: 10: 31

Why Read: Nnedi Okorafor is one of my favorite science fiction writers. I was interested in finding out more about her and it was short enough to fit in on the last day of the month.

Comments: Nigerian American Nnedi Okorafor was born with scoliosis. At the age of 19, she had surgery to correct it and ended up paralyzed. She had a long road of physical therapy, but on the way she became a writer of African centered science fiction. It's quite a story. I gave it a B+

I wanted to get more read, but I think it was mostly a good month. I'm hoping to read more in November.
