Hello! I'm new here and hope that I'm doing this correctly. I read a book as a teenager and I'm trying to find it but Google isn't helping with the few details that I have.

-I read it in the 90s so it was probably written in the 80s or 90s
-It's either a YA or children's novel.
- I remember 3 things about the book.
The main character is a teenage boy with a younger brother, who at one point in the book dumps a bowl of food (pasta?) over his head at a restaurant and says something like "You eat it or wear it".
- The main character goes to a movie with a girl that he likes and their fingers keep touching in the popcorn tub. (I think the girl was taller than him).
- The main character and his family are on some kind of road trip I believe.

"Eat it or wear it" reminds me of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, but the other incidents don't match. The family does go on vacation in a later book, Fudge-a-Mania.

These are combined details from Tales of a Fourth-Grade Nothing, in which Fudge smears mashed potatoes on the wall at a restaurant and is introduced to the saying "Eat it or wear it!" by his dad after refusing to eat the cornflakes he demanded, and Superfudge, in which the family moves to New Jersey, Fudge makes up a song during the drive there, and later Peter goes to see Superman with some friends, including the girl he likes.
