ABANDONED. People get sent to the opposite side of the world, find each other, become trees? Short story. Maybe biblical or something else

I remember last seeing/reading it 2013/14, at that time my parents were making me do all the Christian extra curriculum stuff at school so there is a chance of it being biblical but there’s an equal chance it isn’t because at the time my teacher loved reading to everyone. I don’t know how I remembered this story out of nowhere but it’s been bugging me for a few weeks now.
Here’s the plot I remember:
There were 2 people, either siblings or lovers and for some reason they got sent to the opposite side of the world (forgot why) and I think they were looking for each other for ages and eventually they met and became a tree or something.
I remember reading/listening to that story so many times so if you just have a title and maybe a link (since it’s a short story and I remember seeing it at school I’d assume it would be publicly available for free, if not a preview is fine) I’d be able to identify it straight away.
