I'm Rocky,a Chinese.I learned English as a second language.I love reading and considered reding as a pastime.I'd like to read books about History, science, detective, and so on.I saw the challenge on the group's home page and interested in it.I think challenge will inspirit me and encourage me reading more good books. I'm glad to join in this group as my first station which can bring me go ahead and wind in reading field.
Thanks!

Which language do you prefer to read in?
Some multilingual people choose to read in their second language to better understand the unfamiliar language, others stick with their native language. Others do whatever. A few months back I read a book in English (the only language I truly can read in) from a French writer. At times the language was a bit choppy and not quite right. After finishing it while reading another book I found myself still thinking I was reading a translation, but it was a naturally written in English by an English speaking writer. Weird.

Hi, Becky. Welcome to our group. We have a lot of fun talking about books, and you are right, we do have a lot of fun challenges

Thank you! :)

My hobbies include all different types of crafts, baking, cake decorating, n most importantly reading x

Maris, welcome and good luck with your goal! I am sure you will find many more books to add from our discussions here!
Sabrina, welcome to the group, and it gets so darn anoying when life gets in the way of reading LOL!

I'm Ellie, I live in the Midlands, UK.
I love reading and definitely want to increase the amount of books I read, there is never too many!
It would also be great to have somewhere to discuss the books I read.
Hi, Ellie. Welcome to the group. This is a good group for challenges and talking about books. Enjoy!

Anyway that's me. I also really hope to make new friends here...so hi!

My name is Anna and I adore reading all kinds of literature. Probably like most of you, I don't restrict myself to any specific genre - I just try to pick out the best of the best.
As a little girl I was an avid and passionate reader. I could read books so fast my relatives thought I was just skimming :D I remember reading all the Narnia books in a week and my mom having a go at me for making her buy me a new book every day.
Unfortunately, growing up i started reading less and less, being preoccupied with other stuff, which I know is not an excuse, but I slowly started forgetting the feeling of immersion a good book gives you.
I joined this group to find motivation to spare time and go back to what I was before. I'm nearly 20 (which scares me and The Catcher in the Rye starts making sense in a different way O.o) and I really need to reestablish those mighty page marathons, since I always have and always will define myself as a Reader.
- I have read and loved all the Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia books, as well as The Hunger Games (I am usually not mad about YA but this franchise was genuinely good). Currently I'm catching up on Lemony Snicket.
- I encourage myself to read Children's books, in case I have missed out on anything. Besides, it brings me back to my library-minded times. By the way, Astrid Lindgren was my first favourite author back then.
- I love British humour and the all of the work of Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett that I have read so far. The latter ignited my interest in Neil Gaiman, but haven't read anything by him yet (which I will change soon)
- I also enjoy Stephen King (and I have hopes for his son Joe Hill)
- My favourite book is Lolita
-I have decided to read AT LEAST the same number of books as my age a year, but since I failed last year's challenge, I transferred it to this year, so 30 it is. *shoulder shrug*
Forgive me for the wall of text, I got excited. Nice to meet you all and I hope I'll go back on track soon ^_^
Hi, Anna. Welcome to the group. I am still reading children's books that I missed when I was a little girl, and I'm a granny now.

I enjoy reading a little of everything but highlights include short stories, classic lit, fiction, and essays. My favorite author right now is Kurt Vonnegut.
I'm looking for that extra motivation to get to this year's reading goal!

I'm Moritz, 17 y.o. from Germany and I love reading since I was a little child.
Sadly I've neglected it in recent years, but lately I came back at it again. Oddly enough I recently enjoy reading english books far more than german ones, what led me to this community.
My favourite genres include non-fiction and science, as well as Fantasy and young adult books.
I'm looking forward to find some goodreads friends and to accomplish my reading goals for this year :)
Hi, Moritz. Welcome to the group. We have a lot of fun challenges to get you reading more, and lots of fun discussions too.

Hi Anna!
I am a huge fan of STP and that's what ignited my interest in Neil Gaiman too, but it turned out a lot of the things I've loved have been written by NG, it's good stuff!

Those two are amazing right! I loved Coraline when it came out and loved Terry as well and when I found out it's based on his book AND those two work(ed) together the hype went real! Especially since the premises and ideas of 90% of NG's books sound exactly like something I would love!

My name is Nele and I'm a German currently living in Denmark to study.
I had a very bad reading slump the last months and now I am thankfully out of it and ready to read every book from whatever genre in whatever language.
This is the first time that I don't restrict myself to the one book I am reading but start several at once and it works really good for me. :)
Welcome to the group, Nele. I read more than one book at once too. That way if I get stuck in one, I will switch to another.

Hi, Charlotte. Welcome to our group. I have read a much wider variety of books since joining goodreads. The challenges in this group are a lot of fun.

I used to read quite a lot but then stuff happened and I stopped reading altogether. So not long ago I started reading again but often I find myself too tired to read or just not in the mood. I do remember how much I enjoyed reading and I long to feel that again.
I've been looking for a reading group to help/motivate me to reach that goal. A couple of months ago I joined a similar group. I've found it to really help me get back into my reading, although sometimes I feel a bit demotivated seeing how much everybody else reads (my challenge for this year is merely 12 books). Today I just stumbled on to this group and liked some of the challenges so decided to give it a try to participate in two groups.
I like most genres, do have a preference for fiction though, so I can just lose myself in the story. I just LOVE it when a book can make me forget where I am, who I am and everything else in this world and I just 'disappear' into the story being told.
