Help finding a book

Okay this is going to be one of those you know that movie that that guy was in type questions.

I remember listening to an audio book about a group of four or five being released from prison the lead character was a solider before being placed in prison another character was a brainiac who came from earth.

the only other things I remember are they use fairies to communicate who lived in bottles and they bad guy flies around in a massive flying sailing boat....

any help would be great.... can't be hard right? lol
